Hi, I am a new member too and just bought a second hand x50i
Just after I picked it up blue smoke was everywhere!!! I drove it some 900Kms home from Sydney and it went perfectly. WATCHED OIL LEVEL CLOSELY. It did slow down and only got to half level. Drove so well. Very impressed. Unfortunately I did not do enough homework on the N63 engine’s problems and now have been doing a lot, especially on this site. thanks for all the good stuff. I jus hope now after the night to cool off the x5 blew enormous smoke next morning and ran really rough and a kind of air pumping sound from under the bonnet and of course the Alarms came up on the dash! Booked it into BMW to be diagnosed but after this blog I think I know what needs to be done. I just hope the Australian BMW situation is same as US and will replace motor or at least repair it. Will post again soon. |

This sounds just like why ppl are dumping these vehicles, they own them for a few years, lots of lights start coming on or the oil smoke, they freak and sell them....
Congrats on the new ride!

I've done the recall back in 2014 or 2015, with 17k on the clock. Now the car has over 50k, and I think the injectors are going back again. Today it threw a CEL, and there is a strong sulfur smell out of the exhaust.
Do these replaced injectors have an extended warranty, or am I on my own if I want to replace them again? |

Do I qualify for the Customer Care Program?
Quote:
It runs great now but it still burns oil. It still smokes at idle and a cloud of smoke appears when I accelerate from idle at a stop then disappears. Also, when I stop the car. Shut the engine off, get out and walk around back smoke continues to come out of the exhaust tail pipes for about a minute or two. Could this smoke be coming from all the oil the turbos and the faulty valve stem seals dumped into the exhaust system? Is there anyway to clean the oil from the exhaust system besides driving it and burning it out? I don't want to start the damn thing on fire. Finally and related to the quoted post. Does anyone know if I qualify for this Customer Care Program? I purchased the car from a small Non Certified BMW dealer. Would that disqualify me from participation in the program? |

As for the CCP program, you can go on BMW's website and enter you VIN to see if you qualify but with that much mileage I think you are on your own. |

I don't believe there is an expiration date. Have you tried searching for the actual bulletin and reviewed the details? Otherwise, I'd get in touch with your local dealer and have them look it up - then you know for sure where your vehicle stands with BMW.
If nothing came up for your X5 it's possible the work was already done awhile back as this bulletin came out years ago now. Either way, not sure the CCP work will correct your current issues, especially after all the work you just had done. The CCP addressed items like timing chain, crankcase vent lines, mass air flow sensors, battery, etc. FWIW I had my valve stem seals replaced and the vehicle continued to guzzle oil. Thats where the Bang lawsuit comes in - engine replacement covered by BMW up to 80%, if approved. |

My questions you quoted were from a long time ago; since then I brought it into the dealer, and with NO paperwork or 'submitting a claim', they did the entire Valve Stem Seal replacement at zero cost to me. I do think that the way BMW has been handling these repairs has "evolved", possibly from an exception-only to the Cust Care Pkg and finally the lawsuit response.

wow so lucky found this thread. I have 2011 X5. Took mine in had all the valve seals rebuilt under warranty...even after I noticed still burns a little bit. I brought it back to get it checked but they said it passed and to monitor it. The amount is under bmw acceptable range

is this recall or USA vehicles or does it apply to all N63 engines? I have an ex usa vehicle that I imported into Canada. Does anyone know if BMW NA will allow a recall in Canada or am I out of luck? I own a 2010 E72 Activehybrid, production date 2009-11-04.
