On my car the dealer replaced valve stem seals, rear main seal, rear coolant cover (the one above the rear main seal, updated versions), and bunch of bolts and gaskets as part of the settlement. They provided a rental for me.
I also replaced the oil return cover myself in November, and while in there replaced the turbos ( one has exhaust leak on that seal for westgate flap, and both of them were leaking oil on intake side), oil return lines, that coolant Y pipe, crank case vent pipes (were cracked, caused oil smell when heat on) and all gaskets and seals as per TIS. So the parts were $650 from ecs tuning, the vent pipes about $100 from the dealer, and turbos $625 each from the dealer. 2k in parts but saved some money on labor. |

I was qualified for engine replacement since i failed oil consumption test multiple times on Oct 3, 2018 so the dealer said they will replace the engine for me but i have to contribute 30% of the cost but my SA said they will give me a bigger discount since im a loyal customer with them. So i agreed and they kept the car since Oct 3 and they gave me a loaner till they replace the engine. My SA emailed me yesterday Feb 8 2019 and said my engine just arrived and they will start working on my car on Monday Feb 11 2019 and that it will take a week to finish the job. So ill keep you guys posted and ill upload the service paper work to show everyone what exactly was done and what other associated parts was replaced. My SA told me that i will have my turbos replaced as well which i have some doubt. Does anyone know when engine is replaced they have to replace new turbos? Was that part of Bang class action lawsuit settlement agreement? Anyways ill keep you guys in the loop once i get my car back.

Thanks brotha! Thats so weird that my SA confirmed by email that both turbos will be replaced as part of engine replacement package. I guess i will have to wait till monday and give my SA a call to confirm about replacing turbos.

I didn’t submit my claim on time but I have a great reason for not doing it: I was in Afghanistan for the month of October. I know service members have a lot of protections for things like this I assume I should contact the firm in charge of this Class Action. If that doesn’t work I guess I’ll stop by the JAG office and see how they can help. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thank You Thank You Thank You!
Hey Everyone, been browsing the forum for a while, but just registered as a member today. I did so because of this posting right here. I just purchased a 2011 BMW X5 xDrive50i and have had a few bumps in the road since I got her. One month into it, it wouldn't start for like 30 mins and when it did every dash alarm possible was on. Turned out to be Low Pressure Fuel pump. And if it wasn't me being pissed off and making it an issue with the stealership I would have had to pay for it, but I didn't. All was well all about a month ago. It went into Limp mode and threw codes showing cylinders 5 and 6 misfiring. Changed out the Spark plugs and the Coil Packs for the affected cylinders but did not fix the issue. So the only thing I can think of, and the suggestion of the stealership service advisor was the fuel injectors. Upon which they quoted me close to $3k for the repair!! Then today I saw this post about the BMW Service Bulletin (B001314) that speaks directly to this issue and that it should be covered. I called BMW and all they tell me is there are no Active Recalls for my vehicle. But did admit that there could be Serve Bulletins out there for my X5 but they couldn't confirm that unless I bring the X5 into them.
So Monday I will bring her into them and let them do what they need to do to verify the service bulletin, and I will ask if there are any others that would apply and to have that work too. SOOOO THANK YOU FOR THIS POSTING!!! I hope it makes the difference between breaking the bank and getting it fixed for free. Anyone know of any other Service Bulletins that may apply to my X5? |

Hey elmasry17, I'm about to put my X5 in the shop for misfiring cylnders 5 and 6 which I believe is the Fuel injectors. I'm hoping it is covered under the service bulletin B001314. Aside from that I have noticed that it also goes through oil more than my 2000 3-series and 2005 X5, but doesn't smoke. How did you ask for the Oil Consumption test, and if it fails does that mean it automatically qualifies for a new engine?

2013 X5 50i CPO w/ Dinan S2 installed by the dealer. I am not sure how I fair with this one. However, my engine seized last month, and the service advisor said BMW USA approved an engine replacement at my $50 deductible and provided me a new vehicle to use. I have had the X5 for about two years now, purchased at 35k, seized at 70k. In those two years, the X5 was in an out due to various oils leak related issues surrounding the main seal and turbos. I was told by the service advisor that he does not know when a new engine will be in, and I also do not have specifics on the parts. He mentioned people waiting "months."
Personally, I would like to have them purchase it back or offer a hefty discount on the purchase of something else. Either way, when I hear anything, I will let you know how this one plays out. |

Mine was approved this week for valve stem seal repairs. $0 out of pocket. 63k miles and I was burning 1 qt about every 500 miles. I asked my SA why mine was approved for "repair" while it seems everyone else with similar miles is getting a full replacement. He can't answer the question and says it's up to BMW NA. Anyone have any insight here. Do I / should I be pushing back on this? Thanks in advance for any advice or lessons learned.

2011 X5 50i M Sport 68K miles
I have owned this vehicle for 6 years, bought it as a lease return w/ 32K miles. It has always burned oil and I have had it in and out of the dealer wherein they replaced turbos, entire fuel system, pretty much everything over the course of ownership. It started smoking badly last summer. Fast forward to today...it has been in the shop for almost a month. I turned it in as a class action suit candidate and was told they would perform an oil consumption test. The following day the dealer called and said it would need no test and that BMW NA had approved an engine replacement and that I would be responsible for 15% of engine cost or $1250. I accepted and requested a loaner car, which the dealer denied but offered a rental car with a maximum dealer cost value @ $44/day, which I accepted. It is worth noting that when I dropped my vehicle off at the dealership I had already emailed the settlement claims administrator and then was called by BMW NA after the dealer initially said that I would have to pay for the oil consumption test. I will continue to post as events unfold. Am quite excited and feel vindicated to receive a new engine after years of knowing the N63 was defective. Since I am just out of warranty, I am stacking parts to perform the upgrades I have wanted to do for a while. Your posts and advice will be appreciated as I am looking to do wheels/tires (I like Greddy's but it looks as if TSW no longer makes the 22" version of the Interlagos), suspension, catless downpipes, new headlights, exhaust, tune, and an AVINUSA headunit. My vehicle does have the active suspension so I will need a bit of help there. This is particularly funny in that I literally work across the street from KW suspension manufacturing headquarters and nobody there can give me a straight answer on what components I need and who can install them for me. |

Keep these updates coming, very much appreciate all the info being accumulated here.
Splinter - if it were me, I would be happy with just getting that repair done for zero cost. A replacement might take many months to secure, but that repair could be much quicker. I have zero issues at 58k at the moment, unless you call burning a qt of oil every 850-900 miles an issue...

2011 X5 50i
Currently has 121,000 miles. Has been burning oil significantly since I purchased the car as a cpo 5 years ago. Typically add a quart every 500 miles. Was in for service at dealer last month at 119,900 miles and they offered me a new motor for $7,500. I chose not to buy the engine. I probably would have for $3,000. The car has been very reliable for me the last 5 years. I've put on over 70,000 miles. I don't like the oil mess on the back of my alpine weiss x5, nor do I care for the constant smoke out of the tailpipes. Adding oil is kind of annoying, but overall it's been pretty good. I plan on driving it until it gives up.

I don't bother about oil consumption either. Its a blessing in disguise. Oil remains fresh. Will worry about CAT when it gives up ., then I will sell it off. |

I wanted to bring this up again and see what's what...
Much earlier in this thread several ppl reviewed their Bang lawsuit papers and some said they read instructions saying that they had to "apply" before a certain date to be part of the lawsuit. I swear I read mine three times and it stated flat out, that "by doing nothing, you will be included in the lawsuit." I saw a couple other options like if you wanted to sue BMW on your own, you had to opt out, etc. I just wondered if anyone above who has initiated the lawsuit replacement process could chime in on how they did so. Did you just drive into the dealership with your papers? Or did you "apply" somehow first?
