Rumor I have heard is that they are going to replace the baby turbos on the X6 50i with larger turbos and with a simple tune HP output can be north of 600hp. I believe Garrett Turbchargers may already have ones that fit. I can't wait until Steve Dinan finally gets around to it because I will have my littles turbos replaced with these and then have him tune the boost output and turn my X6 into a real monster

550 sounds reasonable , but 550 plus sounds great , considering the weight of the cars which is well over two tons it needs power and huge torque to play easily with all that weight and who cares about fuel....some 25l in the city....cant wait for this..

Hmmm, all this source code shows is that the 'keywords' section (used for search engines) contains a tag for 550HP. Which could be for someone searching for 550HP (e.g. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S) and he/she would get a result linking him/her to the BMW X6 M and X5 M Microsite!
It doesn't necessarily mean that the car WILL have 550HP! Don't get me wrong, I sure hope that once they reveal the X6M, that the engine will in fact put out 550HP!!! The Cayenne Turbo S uses a 4.8l Twin-Turbo engine producing 550HP which brings this engines output to 114.58HP/l The X6 xDrive50i has a 4.4l Twin-Turbo producing 400HP or 90.91HP/l and the X5M/X6M would bring this to 125HP/l if the output will be 550HP. In comparison, the xDrive35i which has a 3.0l Twin-Turbo engine with 300HP puts out 100HP/l. Of course they can push this higher (on either engine), but unless they also beef up the cooling and everything else that goes with it, the longtime reliability of the engine would suffer. BMW has announced a (modest) power upgrade option for for the 3.0l Twin-Turbo charged engine (N54) which was probably based on the research/tuning done on this engine for the 740 which puts out 326HP. Part of this option is a beefed up cooling system. Based on all of this, I would assume that the M division put quite a few modifications under the hood of the X6M. It's definitely not just a 'simple' tune or reprogramming of the engine electronics.

I would think so but so far the videos I've seen and things I've read they don't mention much more than increased HP , rear centric power train and pics show a god awful quad exhaust (may work on M3/5 but IMHO sucks on X6).

Well, so far they have been able to keep a lid on about ANY details or specs on the X5M or X6M, so I doubt they would have included any specific information regarding any changes they may have done to the engine or suspension setup. I'm sure we'll find out when they reveal the cars... in about a month

No it doesn't. I have the X6 50i and trust me that is plenty of HP and torque for its size and 550+HP and torque will be unbelievable!!

shenard is correct I have a X6 50i and it has plenty of power. what I'm waiting to see is what else they are going to pump up besides the HP. If 550 is the number then trans, dpc will need to be beefed up also unless they think the 550 will only be used in a straight line. |

I think it will have more than 480 of torque. The X6 50i has 400hp and 450 torque and if BMW is achieving the 550hp by using larger turbos then the torque will also increase as well so I would think you would end up closer to 600 then 480. Just not sure how much the tranny and existing components can handle so I am sure you will see bigger intercooler and larger oil cooler but only time will tell.

Ya they have to bump HP and torque a lot higher than what the current 50i produces. |

550 hp is not quite enough for a 5,300 lb vehicle. That's a a mass/power ratio of just under 10 lb/hp. Not M Standards by any means. Also, I hope this comes with some sort of M DCT variant since a slush box will show that they simply just rushed this thing to market.
Anyone else think the wheels on the test mules look dinky?

i'm interested in seeing what the final torque number are. 550hp is a lot, but with the weight of these vehicles, torque is what's going to be important. torque is the name of the game here. i can imagine somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600ft/lbs, which is more than enough to get these pigs moving!

that could be true....that car is heavy 2.500kg at least.....M5 has 507 and 530Nm...and weights just over 1800kg....its fast but its not a miracle.....by my calculations they should put a bigger engine not a modified 4.4l....they should put a brand new engine some 5.5 and 620hp and some 1000Nm....the BRABUS GV12 has 700hp and over 1300Nm and is limited to 1100Nm to save the transmission....same thing goes with AMGs.....its just more fun to have plenty of torque , not so many horses...

Here in the UK all this extra power is of very little significance as "Speed cameras" are spreading like a plague. This government is removing an driving pleasure from the population at an allarming rate
I have bought and owned most of the "Performance cars" but now I am reconsidering my extravigance. I will NOT be spending £55K+ on cars any more, it's just not worth having 180MPH under your foot and only ticking over most of the time |
