BMW Performance Upgrade?
What does everyone who has the BMW performance upgrade on the 50i think of it? Is it worth it? Can you feel the difference? Do you have another company's tune that is better?
Any info would be appreciated, thank you. |

Increasing 40hp for under 1500.00 is a bargain, IMO. On top of it, it doesn't void your warranty.

I agree with you on that, as long as you can feel the difference in acceleration, it would be worth it. Has anyone talked to the dealer about the upgrade. The dealer I talked to was clueless about it.

Afaik, the upgrade was available as 7RR ordering # for 2010. Not avail for order on 2011. Will/should be available as dealer installed option/upgrade in June '10. price is unknown. this upgrade is software only, no hardware. can you feel it, a little. it's not totally over the top. slightly better torque pull as well. just numbers in the end. the twin turbo v-8 is very strong and has incredible torque by itself. with that being said if price is in 1500 range, I will consider it.

Dealer told me today the Dinan upgrade will be available very soon and doesn't void the warranty. Just another option for those that have already purchased.

and of course, the BMW performance upgrade would be covered under BMW warranty... OP: if your only interest is "feeling it"/butt dyno, perhaps you cold save your money and just purchase a sprint booster...

The comment earlier that Dinan voids the BMW warranty actually isn't true. The Dinan warranty is an adjunct to the BMW warranty. They currently offer limited tune ugrades to the public for the 35i, nothing yet for the 50i. I can tell you from personal experience, having the only Dinan X6 50i in the world, it's a totally different car once their done. The turbo lag is eliminated, the HP and torque increase is mind-blowing, the exhaust sound is meaty and intimidating, the black ceramic tips on the exhaust are an eye-turner, and the Brembo Gran Turismo brakes are the icing on the cake. Check out my earlier post with pics

I don't know when the 50i will be available for market, just put in a couple emails today to engineers that worked on my car. I'v been eagerly awaiting them to finish testing. My 50i is currently in Stage 2, waiting for Stage 3, which will include additional increases in HP and torque, and an even meaner & throatier sounding exhaust. I'm really happy with the way it sounds now, but as I picked up my car close 9 months ago, the head engineer wasn't completely satisfied and wanted to revamp the whole thing. At no cost to me, I was like right on

perhaps I should clarify,
on a BMW with warranty work needed, part failure found to be caused by a Dinan product will not be covered under BMW, but the cost would be picked up by Dinan. However if the same car perhaps has interior trim problems or squeaky door seals, that would still be covered under BMW warranty. Get my point? Either way, AFAIK, your car/VIN is noted at the BMW dealership as having Dinan/aftermarket parts installed..
