Winter tires. HELP PLEASE
Hi all ive lurked on these forums for quite a while but now as a new proud owner of a titanium silver 5.0 X6 ill be posting frequently! Living in NY and driving through the snowstorm that just hit us with my x6 riding on 20inch Sport Package wheels was a nightmare!!! i was slipping and sliding everywhere as if i was on a ice rink. Seeing as there will be more storms and many more winters with my beast I definitely want to equip the beast with the right rubber! Im having trouble locating winter tires for my truck. I have the 20inch Sport package rims and tires and am not looking to change rims for the winter. Can anyone please direct me on what i can do to find winter tires that will fit right onto my stock rims. THANKS

Check out www.tirerack.com I have Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires on my X6M's 20s but I think that the rear 315s are backordered now. Are your wheels offset too? PS DO NOT DRIVE IN WINTER CONDITIONS WITH PERFORMANCE RUBBER. YOU'LL DIE OR KILL SOMEONE.

The snow tires will make an enourmous difference.

997 GT3, Thanks for the response! im not really to sure if i have offset or not how can i tell? I know i have the 20inch rims and tires that come with the BMW Sport Package.
And yea believe me buddy I know it was like playing russian roulette. I had a scare that will keep me home on these tires unless an absolute emergency. I was driving doing about 15mph and the road went into a pretty steep decline with a stop sign at the end of the road and you must turn right or left as there is a house straight ahead. I pressed the brakes and NOTHING just heard the ABS going wilddd and i had no choice but to plow my car into the a high pile of snow that thankfully stopped me as there was traffic going both ways on the road! Im VERY serious about getting these tires installed ASAP just need help getting the right setup |

It really does make you paranoid. I won't drive the targa if the temp is below 60 with high humidity much less moisture on the road.

Please don't drive without getting the tires changed. You don't want to ruin that new vehicle, get hurt, or hurt someone else over a set of tires. Just go out to your X6 and read the sidewalls on the front and rear wheels. They should be marked something like 275/40R20, which is width/depth and rim size. If your wheels are offset the rears will be wider than the fronts so you'll have to buy two like-sized tires for the front and two like-sized tires for the rear. Sometimes, though, you can actually find a tire that's close enough in width that it will actually work on all four. Call Tire Rack or one of your local tire shops.

Here in Colorado, winter/snow tires are a lot better than all season on cold slippery surfaces, but an all season set set can be used year round.
