X5 v x6 - do you need a utility vehicle or a sport UT. The X5 has more usefulness than the X6. I like the look of the x6 better, and that's my primary consideration. The secondary consideration is that it can carry some things around when I need it. But I also have other utility vehicles and a trailer for hauling, and my kids are grown, and. . . you get the idea. The X6 3.5i (300hp US) will be less powerful than the X5 4.8i (350hp US) just because the 4.8 is a more powerful engine. However, it's interesting to compare the vehicles' weight and in fact they could be dead even. X5 4.8 5335 lbs US spec x6 3.5i 4894 lbs US spec So, it is possible that the smaller engine x6 could have a slight edge on the larger engine x5. 50 HP difference is not a whole lot, considering the weight and I think the x5 is slightly more square than the x6 (less slippery through the air) so at freeway speeds the x6 may have an advantage. Only by driving the two could you tell for sure. Engine size: Depends on how much money you have for fuel. I know in Europe where petrol is even more expensive than the US, a lot go for the smaller engine or the diesel. My personal preference is the v-8 x6 due to the weight of the car. It's over 2.5 tons (US) so it's not a dainty little morsel. Don't get me wrong, its performance is really great, but moving about that much mass comes at a price. I'm sure guys with the smaller engine will tell you it get's along fine, but when you buy a bimmer there's a certain expectation for performance. If you're Ok with a little less performance get the smaller engine, but only you know your own expectations. Last edited by teagueAMX; 07-18-2009 at 04:03 PM.. |

Thank you bro for this great reply
my budget helps me only getting the X6 3.5i thats why i was comparing it to the X5 and for more space im not really concerned about that especially if im 19 and im willing to have fun going crazy with the car.... some people agree that X6 3.5i is faster than the X5 4.8i and i slightly agree with them .... lets see more responses from other users .... so i can i really decide what to take THANK YOU EVERYONE plz help me decide..... |

hey ..
all I can say is test drive both .. the x6 is in fact much faster and handles times better than the x5 but it still has this annoying lag and the fact that it's not a throaty V8 just makes me love it less try waiting a few months till the 2010 models are out and make a deal on an 09 X6 5.0 it's worth it ^_~

Say you're 19 - go for x6 3.5i.
A lot of people on this forum have them over in Europe and I think they are happy with them. The handling is a big factor that you won't get with the x5. |

Here's a really good review of the x6 with the smaller engine - I think you'll like it.
BTW - the x6 is a really good looking car, so take the review FWIW. Last edited by teagueAMX; 07-18-2009 at 06:16 PM.. |

the 09 3.5 a month ago was 280k and the 5.0 was 340k so am guessing if there were left overs they will go for 15-20k less ... try calling our dealer and see if it's worth the trip ^_~

I think the non-turbo V8 is a great engine. The 3.5 X6 is also a good engine.
It depends on what you really want. X6 - Sport, car like ride X5 - SUV, luxury truck Both are great choices. Performance wise, I think the 300 HP 3.5 is actually about 340 HP according to tests. BMW under rates the engine's capabilities so not to compete to close with the M. So it will be close to the V8 without the V8 growl. You can't go wrong with either one. It comes down to styling, room, and your preference. I would not buy either one based on iDrive. iDrive is constantly changing and there is something new every year or two. So buy the car you want and ignore the feature stuff or you will be waiting forever.

I think it fits you best - you're young, and want to have fun. You don't need a sport utility vehicle, you need a Sport Activity Coupe. |

When I order mine it will be Alpine White because I think it has a way showing off the X6's lines best. It's also is easier to keep clean and reflects solar radiation the best. |

I'm amazed no one mentioned that x6 has DPC, X5 does NOT, which makes X6 handles a lot better, particularly/ a must w/ adaptive drive.
That's why they are putting DPC in both the X5M & x6M next! So... if one wants to haul stuff, have 4 passengers & doesn't care about performance of their vehicle in a curve / on twisty roads, & they only drive on mostly straight roads... by all means x5 w/v8 is gr8. If u want handling , room & v8 vroom.. wait for X5M! Mineral Silver or Vermillion Red. MS will catch the light & the shine moves on the surfaces like mercury! |
