Help for strange noise
Good evening, I have been buying a beautiful X5 e70 in 2008 with 120.000 km. The car was in excellent condition and did not give me problems until a few days ago. The current distance is 125,000 km, and I began to hear a noise that is valuable only from inside the cockpit. Having to describe it, I would describe it as a "ringing, which follows the revolutions / engine, but which feels more pronounced between 1500 and 2000 rpm.The first suspect I had was that of the distribution chain, but I think I can exclude it following the following characteristics / verifications: 1) noise occurs only when the engine is hot; 2) the noise disappears when I'm facing a curve on the right or left and comes back as soon as I straighten the steering; 3) the noise is audible however also in neutral with the car stationary; 4) a mechanic whose trust I tried to remove the services belt and the noise disappears. We tried to change the engine pulley with a new one but unfortunately the noise remained. These considerations have therefore made us think with some confidence that the noise don't comes from the chain, even if, as a result of this attempt I passed in bmw, we tell me it could be the chain. At this point I do not really know what to think. Is there anyone who can help me? Thank you in advance. Sorry for my english, It has translate.

If I read your message correctly, you remove the belt and the sound is gone, must be related....... There is more than one pulley, plus A/C compressor and alternator, and power steering pump. When I can’t figure out what’s making a noise, I use my favorite method, also the most stupid and least economical, is to make an educated guess and start replacing parts. I’m very successful at this method. If you do the work yourself, labor cost isn’t a concern. The more parts I buy, the more likely I fix the problem. But seriously maybe try a mechanics stethoscope and have a listen to some of the parts I listed above. Maybe someone else has some better advice for this guy? |
