2011 X5 xdrive35i bluetooth software update?
I have a 2011 X5 that is new to me and there is a bluetooth connection issue with both iphone and android phones. Connecting and pairing seems to work at first, but then the device does not show and xdrive says something like "phone not available".
However, if someone calls, it comes through the audio system. Playing anything from spotify does not come through the audio system. Bluetooth (L406985-9231090) and maps (112.9104.12) are from 2010ish...I've generated the FSC and the maps are currently updating to 2021 now. Is there a way to update the bluetooth version for better phone compatibility? |

What versions does your CIC have for Multimedia and Telephone? You can find it in your CIC phone/bluetooth settings. I can't remember exactly where but I believe it says something about "software version" it will look like this: MX-00#.00#.0## TX-00#.00#.0## Here are the latest files. Credit to pungo https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1881876 The latest versions are MX-003.005.004 and TX-003.005.008 Also, I still have issues with my Android phone every once-in-a-while. Seems Android likes to update their bluetooth communication protocols every day or something. You can manually change that in dev settings to roll back a few versions. This helped with a lot of the connectivity issues I was having. I still sometimes have to cycle between radio and CD on the I-Drive controller for bluetooth audio to work. |

Thank you for the reply.
I can't seem to find the bluetooth version in the car, although the display does show my contacts on my phone. The bluetooth info section just says call 1-800-332-4269 www.bmw.com/bluetooth (which throws an error for my VIN) Have system information ready - L406985-9231090 Nothing useful there. As for the 1008.bin file, it seems to be rather elusive on the internet. None of the links are working on the forum or via google search... |

Got it.
However, it never prompts for an update nor do I see a menu option by which to update the software? USB thumb drive is fat32, MBR. UPD01008.bin file is the only file on the drive. |

Are you using the armrest USB port?
You do have a combox right? |

Yes, I'm using the armrest USB. The thumb drive is detected, and I can browse it for music files, but it doesn't show the .bin file.
To be honest, I don't know what combox is. I have navigation and bluetooth telephone menus... |

Enter your vehicle's VIN into a BMW vin decoder (search for one on google). If you see option S6VC you will have a combox. The combox is what controls media through bluetooth. Otherwise you will only get telephone capabilities and I don't know that the update will work for you.
I'll check my menus today and post the exact steps to check your software versions. |

Bummer! You could always buy one and retrofit. I did that on my E60 and it is much nicer than using the aux dongle. Or you could try this out. I've heard pretty good things and this is the only CarPlay/AA solution that plays through MOST instead of aux.

Never come across that before. Did you format the USB drive to FAT32?

I think there is also a limit to the size of the USB before the CIC will not recognize it. Small is better. |

I actually know the answer to this. If any phone has been added with an emoji in the name, the list shows up this way. Unpair the phone in question. Rename the phone without an emoji. Repair and the list will populate properly. The bluetooth interface will also function normally.
