What was your oil change interval? Tuned?

oil pump failure

I second this. On my 2010 X6M that grenaded at 85k, when i dropped the oil pan, the oil pump almost fell out at him me in the head. It was broken off from the sprocket and obviously separated from the chain. I still have it, I have to snap some photos.

Anyone with a first gen s63 should too. Looks to be a pretty easy job too and can be done in a few hours in the X5. After I get done with my heads (valve stem seal replacement turned into a full port and polish job on the heads) I'm going to replace the pump in mine, want the peace of mind, especially with over a 150k on the clock

my 2010 x6m had 85k when grenaded and I had the VAC Motorsports bypass tune. 2 boxes and some cables that went in between the stock harness.

Oil weight and change intervals? I'm still going strong on my 2010 X5M @ 140k doing 5k oil changes using Mobil1 0W40.

Very nice to see an engine with 140k

Have you done anything preventative? ( rod bearings , updated oil pump?)

You might be the highest mile x5 m!

I've got a 2010 X5M with about 83K miles on it. I never do oil changes, LOL! maybe not that funny, my last one, was August 2019, and I put about 13K miles on it since then and I just changed it a few weeks ago just before hitting the track with it. Running OK, except for the misfire. I also was trying to fix that misfire, by removing the coil on # 6 cylinder, couldnt' for the life of me get it out. I pulled so hard the lever almost broke on it, so I gave up on it. #5 came out easily. I pulled it and, just popped out. Should I try to pry #6 coil out? It's all plastic on top, it looks like, so I'm pretty sure I'll break it. And, what kind of plug wrench do I need as I tried the 5/8 and no luck. Thanks!

You need a 14mm 12 point socket for these plugs...

Ok, thanks. Any reason why the coil is so hard to pull out? I was the one who put it in, but it just wont budge. I was just going to replace it yet again, and the plug just to see if it stops misfiring.

what i do is get a very short metal rod (like a Mini metal pick) and put it in the loop of the plastic pull out handle and then i grab each end of the metal pick with one hand and pull up, that will give you more leverage than pulling the tab with just one finger.

That's quite a bit of savings right there my man. Have you changed the other fluids like differential/brake/transmission etc yet?.. My guess would be, why, right?

The plastic can melt a bit on the top of the coil pack. Wiggle it back and forth a bit, and I stuck a flat blade screw driver through the pull tab and pulled with both hands. It wont break, it can just be tough to get out.

OK, I'll try yet again. I'm praying that's the cause of the misfire!?

Yeah, why?!? oh why! Well, the little old lady who owned it before, ok it was a young lady, as there is still a child seat indent in the back seat, LOL. She drove like 10 mph everywhere she went, so I think it's in like new shape as far as the wear on motor and trans is concerned. But, It's probably time to change trans fluid, I guess. I mean the reason why not to change the oil, is that it would go through a liter a week, so after about 8 weeks, it had an oil change anyways. hehe.

It's by no means perfect, it's down on boost (I blame VERY tired turbos), but it runs like a top. Just ritual oil changes and lots of road trips, I haven't dropped the pan or done anything engine wise major. What's funny is I'm NOT nice to this car. I remember my E34 M5 days and read that they like their legs stretched out, so I apply that same technique daily...engine's up to temp and it's game on, EVERY day is a race...stop lights, passing people, dude who maybe looked at funny so I assumed he wanted to race, etc :-) I HATE how it constantly wants to go into 6th, even at the lowest of speeds, so I'm always in Sport and/or ///M mode to keep the revs up vs down low and bogging. Engines in heavy cars don't like low RPM lugging around so I've convinced myself that's why I haven't had the problems I've read about.

Mods:
- custom intake
- JB4 with meth
- HCP stage 2+ flash
- DV+ diverter valves
- muffler valves deleted
- catch can

Done:
- Aux water pump - broke into pieces
- CCV/PCV system - usual cracking
- Injectors - one failed
- Expansion tank - cracked and I now run Evans waterless coolant
- Vacuum pump - leaked oil
- Front brakes - worn out
- Transmission -constantly went into limp mode, slammed itself into 3rd on the freeway and/or wouldn't drive at all even after two flushes/sleeves/gaskets changes a few months apart
- Alternator brushes - hoping it'd fix the Christmas tree dash that still happens post trans swap but thankfully still drives this time around
- Vacuum lines - still can't get rid of reduced power warnings though

To-do:
- Transfer case, maybe - still getting the Christmas tree randomly even though it's for new fluids and the servo gear is perfect
- S63TU mani and turbos - hoping it'll fix my reduced power and smoke after idling for long periods before I explore valve seals, at which point I'll just go fully rebuilt

You may want to look into the xHP trans flash. I made a comment in the xHP thread that the trans flage (stage 3) will likely save your bearings as it stops the TCU from hunting down 6th gear at all speeds. it also allows you to get into 5th much easier if you're in 6th and apply a little throttle as opposed to the stock TCU map that will do everything possible before down shifting.

I've thought about it because honestly ///M and Sport mode are almost too much to the point where I end up manually shifting just because sometimes it'll go into 1st just coming off the freeway when still doing like 20+/- mph and about to accelerate outta the turn.
