Rear Alignment: required nut replacement question
We just became owners of a 2013 Premium xDrive35i and the first thing on the list was new tires and an alignment.
We took it down to our local tire guys and I received a phone call about not being able to complete the rear adjustment due to the requirement to replace the nuts first. I had not looked into the alignment procedure at this point so I requested they adjust what they were able to and we would see where it was then. Long story short the R/H toe was in a bit more than my liking (.45) so I needed to look into the nuts that needed to be replaced. Per 32 00 620 the nuts should be replaced prior to alignment. I imagine BMW does not like us reusing self locking nuts on suspension components, so I was in agreement with the shop (and happy that they went so far as to read into the adjustment prior to starting!) I have referenced 33 32 Axle guide and axle strut Tightening Torques (linked from the first TIS excerpt) and found that these are M12 and M16 nuts that need to be replaced. I thought I had them narrowed down to 33-32-6-760-668 and 33-32-6-760-383 respectively until I was price shopping and saw that the -383 was referenced as an M14 in a few places, contrary to other parts vendors. The Question: What are the parts numbers for the nuts that require replacement to adjust camber and toe on the rear suspension? The Answer: Hex nut w/ flange, M16X1,5-10 ZNS3, Qty 2, Part #: 33306771102 Self-locking collar nut, M12X1,5-10 ZNS3, Qty 2, Part #: 33326760668 Last edited by suiteskull; 06-04-2020 at 05:39 AM.. |

With more investigation it looks like 33-30-6-771-102 and 33-32-6-760-668 may be the correct numbers. Local parts manager says these two are the ones backed up against eccentric washers.
If any one has solid info on this please chime in. |

Hmmm, good information, appreciate the P/Ns, but have to wonder if this is actually done by any shops, dealer's included.
At $12 each for the two of the four nuts, I'm sure BMW Dealer would pass that cost on, not include in their already ridiculous alignment rates, and I suspect we'd have heard about this previously if they were invoiced on the work order regularly.. So I'm guessing this is hardly ever done. so the next question is why. They don't seem to be nylock nuts, so are the impregnated with a locking agent like some other 'one time use' bolts? |

I assume that they are the standard all metal locking nuts that are pinched at the top to create the resistance to loosening. I have not ordered them as of yet so that is just speculation. Quote:
