Exclamation Need help understanding this Carfax/Autocheck

Am looking to buy a 991.1 S at a Porsche dealer and even though the car checks out fine I found something odd on both, carfax and autocheck

Both show first mileage reporting at 7485 miles in January 2015 and that too at an auction. The carfax history starts in January 2015. Nothing before that. First owner is reported in May 2015. which is over a year after the car was manufactured. So this is a one owner car that is an early 2014 build that was driven 7485 miles in 2014 and then sold at an auction in Jan 2015 where a new dealer picked it up and sold to 1st owner. in May 2015? But there is no mention of anything in 2014.

I have never seen this before. Carfax and Autocheck show nothing for 2014 and both indicate 1 owner car. Per Vinanalytics, it was manufactured March 2014 and warranty start is May 2014. Only thing I can think of is that it may have been used by the original dealer by GM or as a loaner and sold later at an auction with 7500 miles. No way to know,

Can anyone decipher this? I just noticed it and plan to ask the dealer tomorrow. Should I walk away from this car? Don't want the hassle of explaining the carfax to a future buyer when i have sell it.

Here is the link to autocheck.....

You know some dealers are running cars for just one day or short periods and offer them much more cheaper as slightly used for one day instead of brand new. If they use the car just with a dealer number plate and no official one (if that is a method within the US) the first service entry isn't filed anywhere.
If no one has bought the car the gap between first in-service and later on sold is correct. Also that the warranty runs from the very first day into service is right.
Not sure if that may help for your decision, if I were you and really interested to buy, just pay the dealer a visit and check that out.

Garage List
Suggest cross posting this on Rennlist where the real P-car experts are.

There is a practice called “punching” cars where dealers take title to receive sales incentives from the manufacturer, without having sold the vehicle to a retail consumer. When the car is punched the dealer becomes the first owner.

There is a C63s cabriolet at my local Mercedes dealer with this phenomenon. It’s a possibility with the Porsche in the OP.

There is a chance this was some sort of demo car. They usually show as leases from day one, but in this case could have never left the "ownership" of the OEM until they were done with it and it changed hands for the first time at 7k miles.

That is my only suggestion.

Also, don't get put off from a demo car that may have been beaten on my journalists/track guests, while it probably saw somethings, it was also well maintained. I cannot promise that is what this is, just my guess.

Passed on it when I looked under the car. Too much corrosion.
