2011 X5 50i Expansion Tank replacement
Hi, I was trying to replace the expansion tank for my 2011 x5 50i, I pulled the top hose off with no problem, but the bottom one is connected with a different clamp, anyone knows how to remove it? please see pics.
Thank you. |

Its the same with every other hose connections you see on the engine. A wire clip that you pull out. Since it is design at a dumbnut angle, you won’t be able to use the pick in such tight space. When pulling the tank up, you have to turn/twist the hose to the point that you can access the clip(towards the engine).

What Twin said above and grab an automotive mirror (or cheap borsecope) to help you see what your doing. That plus a 90 degree pick tool makes it super easy

I recently had to do this same repair on the same vehicle.
See post below. https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show...t=steepcreeker The bottom clip was tough. No room to work with hands. It is same clip as others. I used a small pick with bend to pull at the metal clip. You will get it. Keep jacking around. Look at the video at the end of the linked thread. Shows how to burp out air from coolant lines after your new tank is in. |

Be very careful not to lose the clip! mine went flying off and luckily made it to the ground. Also be aware that once the hose is off, fluid is going to come gushing if you didn't drain the system. I pulled mine, immediately threw it across the driveway into the grass and stuck my finger in the tube until i got the new one on. I should have drained it but mine decided to crack after doing the water pump, thermostat and aux pump so i didn't want to drain it again!
