First diy oil change in my x5
First bmw oil change actually. All of my other cars are Fords.
I have a 2013 35i that I acquired from my father in law. We got it late last year from him with around 35k miles. We're now at 41k. He never really drove it and it was always serviced at the bmw dealer. I will be changing the oil myself and went with the liqui moly kit from fcp euro. No real surprises other than realizing that my normal drain pan wasn't big enough, overflowing before everything drained out. Oops, messy clean up. I think next time it will be much easier and I am considering an extractor so that I don't even have to get under the car. Definitely a lot easier of a job compared to my other cars. The oil drain plug had 2 of the copper gaskets installed. Seemed odd that bmw would do that unless there was an issue. I only put the one on that came with my kit. So far no leaks. Is it actually recommended to go with 2? |

Only 1 washer need.
Don't think you can extract oil from the top for the 35i. Going under the car for the drain plug is not that bad. I don't even lift up the car when doing oil changes. |
