Hey all, this might be a noob question but how do you change the coding?
Do you need a Obd reader? I have a auto body shop repairing my front end. I was hit while parked. So I asked if they would install all brand new 2013 parts on my '12 X6M. If they are willing to install but not code I would like to do the coding. I have all the parts numbers and the coding Info but just haven't found how to change the coding. Thanks |

Just as an FYI for people attempting this retrofit.
I have a 10/10 build date X5M that already had an FRM3 (original configuration was adaptive xenon headlights and LCI tails). I performed the headlight retrofit and everything worked with the exception of the high beams. The servos would move the beam pattern up when the high beams were activated but the actual high beam lights would not turn on. Also, I would get the "high beam malfunction" error message on the CIC. It turns out that not all FRM3 modules are created equal. I purchased the latest revision of the FRM3 new for the E70 and replaced it and after re-coding all light functions work perfectly. I am not sure which version of the FRM3 began fully supporting the LED headlights, but I leave this here as a note for someone else who might run into the same issue. Just because you already have LCI taillights doesn't mean the car is capable of controlling LED headlights. |

Hi, igorbmwx6,
For the E70/E71 LED headlights retrofit, you just follow the coding procedure of page 12 in Manual_X5X6LED.pdf , or take the similar steps of thread #1 in https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1355907 code FRM first then connect LED headlights to prevent burn out? |

Step 2: Re-code VO. Remove option for regular lights and replace it with option for LED lights. Step 3: Re-code FRM3 module Step 4: Done |

Hi Guys, was wondering if someone can answer this question for me. I have an 01/10 X5M Euro Spec with LCI update from factory. When i use BMW ISTA to check the car it shows me the option of LED retrofit, does that mean i have the correct FRM3 for the LED headlights? Or do i have to remove it and check the part number and compare to the above numbers? Thanks.

Referring to your pdf file, are you using Xenon from original BMW or you change to LED light bulb? |

He used oem original BMW headlights. The plug on the OEM LED Adaptive headlights are the same as the xenon headlights from the X5m and X6M. You do have to buy a retrofit to add more functionality and make the headlights work correctly.

Hi, any update about E71 LED headlamps retrofit in 2020?
I just got truly irresistible offer for two LCI X6 headlamps(from crashed car) and couldn΄t find the accessories I΄d need(FRM3 module, wiring harness, etc.). I am not sure if these parts can still be ordered online, I haven΄t find them yet. Thanks a lot. |

You can get all the parts you need from the dealer. If you buy the harness from BMW (part number 61122312375 RETROFIT WIRING HARNESS LED) inside you will find, according to page 4 from the instalation procedure legend, the following: - (A) Retrofit wiring Harness - (D) 5 way miniature connector; - (E) Blade Terminal Fuse 5A (2x); - (K) 2 way miniature connector (Only for cars without SA524 or adaptive headlights) So, if you get your hands on a set of complete healights (with their respective control modules), all you need to get from the dealer is the following: 61 13 1 367 599 - Cable tie - (20x) 07 14 2 151 750 - Blind rivet - (16x) 61 12 2 312 375 - Retrofit wiring harness LED headlights (1x) 01 29 2 320 769 - Installation instructions (you can find this here in the forum ). (H), (I) and (J) will depend on you car. |

Greetings,
I've performed this retrofit on two E71s recently and I would like to share just a few points with people still interested in doing this. One of the cars was an EU model, and the other one a US model. I'm not experienced or a pro and this was in fact my first contact with something like this. That's why I'm compelled to share these points as they may come as trivial for experienced people, but help people doing it for the first time. 1 - As already pointed on the forum, the cutoff date for the footwell module replacement might not be accurate. My car was from 11/2010 and still needed the footwell module to be changed. After coding everything would work minus the high beam function. The footwell module that I found to work without issues was the one with the "44" number on it. The number is in the left side of the sticker beside the BMW logo. I tried a "43" and a "39" if I'm not mistaken, but the only ones that worked were the ones with the "44". Please check the attached picture. 2 - In the US model car, one of the cables that was supposed to be put on the headlight connector (coming from the new retrofit harness) and inside the car was already on the original headlight harness. The exact same wire color. So the decision was to not use the one on the retrofit wiring harness and leave the one on the car. If I am to take an un-educated guess, I believe this is the wire powering the side maker orange lights. The US model already had that function, but the EU model didn't. Since the Full LED headlights have this orange side marker I think some cars need this wire. Please take note that this situation with one of the cables already being there happened also on the other side. Likewise, the wire on the (new) retrofit wiring harness wasn't used. 3 - If one is to somehow manage to get a deal on the LED headlights, you can order the other parts from the retrofit kit. A quick note, the 5-way miniature connector, the blade terminal, fuses and the 2-way miniature connector will be inside the bag with the retrofit wiring harness (part number 61 12 2 312 375). Lost so much time looking for the part numbers on those... only to find them inside the bag with the retrofit wiring harness... 4 - I originally got a retrofit kit (63 13 2 297 442) from a very nice and reputable online online distributor. And he clearly stated that this kit was only for EU cars and NOT compatible with US cars. You can still see this note on different online sellers. In fact, browsing the internet, the Full LED lights have different part numbers between US and EU cars. The fact is I have swapped the headlights and FRM's between both cars and they work just fine. I have swapped both xenon and full LED headlights. Both with the adaptive/cornering function. The only I had was with the US xenon amber side markers not working on the EU model even after coding this option (that's not a bid deal anyway). So, US/EU FRM's and US/EU different headlights all worked between them. 5 - Lastly, after completing the installation, the car goes completely crazy with power windows not working, different lights working on one side of the car, and not on the other and vice-versa, please despair not and check the connectors on the FRM are really tight or pushed all the way through! |

@redding Excellent info. I wonder what happens if one of the LED headlights burns out. Full replacement or are there internal spares available.

I would love to do this retrofit, but the price is actually better used as a down payment on F86...
