The word bad for mileage is a relative word. I smile when filling my 50i up to the tune of 14-16 mpg.

I will be joining you probably soon enough maybe another 6 months or so but I'm not too happy about it can't complain about many technical issues but the idea of 100K miles kinda scares me! I know this is just a number but usually I would be thinking of changing the car at that point, well not this time around

I normally do look into getting rid of vehicles before the 100K but retail on these cars went down in value from what I've noticed anyways. So really anything from this point on wouldn't be a benefit

Just a data point. Did a carmax appraisal last week on my '12 50i with ~95k miles. $10k. I imagine $15k private party is as good as it's going to get.
Loved the power/handling/towing of this car. The rest is pure garbage. Between the battery issues, huge amount of oil burned, service campaigns, and a blow motor. The worst part was the depreciation. At least all the stuff I mentioned above was warrantied. Nearly 90% depreciation in 6 years and <100k miles. Brutal. |

I talked to a buddy of mine who runs a BMW indy, and he told me about his and actually talked me back into getting one. I believe the driving dynamics at quite hard to match in an SUV. After one full year, I do not regret my decision, the truck has excelled at what I require of it. I also thought about vehicles like a Trailblazer SS, a similar performing vehicle, and the problems it has. Now in the used car market, these two trucks are in a similar price point, and if I had gone out and purchased one of those, I would probably have problems to.

Long time lurker, first time poster
In 2016 bought a 2011 xdrive35i with 90k on it. Currently sitting at 115k. Previous owner had regular maintenance through the dealer. Took really good care of it. Service since I have had it: Water pump and thermostat (covered under warranty I bought) Front drive shaft recall Leak from oil filter housing (covered by dealer under their warranty) Rear brake pads and sensor (me) Brake fluid (me) Oil change x2 (me) Transmission fluid (me) |

It is a luxury SUV (SAV?) from BMW, it is a vehicle that stickers brand new at over $55,000, is German, and that also has a bad reputation for reliability. Run of the mill would not be how I would describe it. You also dislike ('Pure garbage') things I don't mind, so it is what it is.

We currently have 122k on our 2008 X5 3.0 which we bought about a year and a half ago with about 98k on it. So far the biggest inconvenience have been the trips to the nearest dealer 2 hours away to deal with the recalls. As far as repairs go, the biggest one we've had to deal with has been the rear air bags. Luckily, after a few YouTube vids and some additional research on the internet, I was able to replace those myself for only 300+/- in parts. I do the routine maintenance (oil, filters, brake fluid replacement, etc.) whenever I can. I'm hoping any real major repairs hold out until at least she's paid off about 2 1/2 years from now..... knock on wood! I say that knowing that just today we got the 'level control system malfunction' warning. Keeping fingers crossed that it's just a sensor!!

2012 X5 SAV 35i - M SPORT
2012 M SPORT X5 35i - 166,250 Miles Great vehicle so far just minor things typical with the vehicle. The N55 requires a water pump/thermostat around 90K miles. So far I have only had to do the following:
Electric Water Pump/Thermostat Torn CV Boot Plastic Firewalls 3 Pieces (Brittle) Coils and Plugs at 100K Transmission Fluid/Filter - 100K Heater Valve - 135K Oil Pan Gasket (Normal for these vehicles around 90K) Airbag Recall Replaced Brake Rotors and Pads. I use it for a daily driver 70 miles/day. A great vehicle that I intend to keep until it stops. I believe she will go for 300K as long as I treat her well. |
