Reduced Engine Power
Hey everyone,
I was leaving for work last week and my 2011 x5 35d randomly lost power and would not go up the hill and the dash lit up saying reduced engine power Took it to the dealer and they said they thought it was a cracked egr cooler and it would cost $1500. The part costs $500 and I just replaced that myself and it is still saying the same thing and having reduced power. Any thoughts on what else it could be? Thanks! |

Could be a lot of things. Bad MAF, pressure converter, boost leak etc.
If it’s giving you reduced power idrive message, you’ll have a trouble code stored. Read the codes and post. |

Unplug your MAF and see if driveability improves.
Could be vacuum lines or MAF. I don’t think it’s the MAP sensor. |

I replaced the MAF and the car still runs with low engine power and struggles to get going. I read some places that it takes like 20 miles to reset? Could that be it or do I need to see what else it could be at this point? Thanks!

Your not diagnosing the codes your just throwing parts. Apparently the dealer may have had the same mentality. Did they actually run through the diagnostics, or did this have codes, and they gave you a 'maybe this is bad'??
I googled the p0029 code, and it seems to be the exhaust valve control solenoid, maybe that is bad and is causing the valves to stay closed? This truck needs some actually troubleshooting, not parts throwing.

Yea it was one of those "we think it's this.. but we'll have to test drive after to be sure". So I decided I'd save a grand but it's still doing the same. I guess I'll look into that as well! Thanks for your input!

Not saying this will solve your issues... But I've had that light and malfunction 3-5 times now...
1.) Wastegate needed replaced 2.) Coils and Plugs needed replaced because engine partition was cracked and water leaked in. 3.) 1 Fuel injector went bad (this week) - this is being replaced by the dealer today.

Why did you replace the MAF?
You need to reset adaptations when you change the MAF. Not 100% necessary but, the correct way to do it. |
