H&R 1.2" Springs with Adaptive Drive
Would love opinions of those running the H&R 1.2" lowering spring kit with Adaptive Drive. I'm worried it will mess with the adaptive shocks and ride quality will be harsh. Who here runs this setup and what are your thoughts? Thanks!

Your fears or assumptions may be correct!
I am running the H&R 1.2 lowering spring kit w/adaptive drive and the ride is ridiculously Harsh! i read somewhere else recently that i could loosen a bolt and re-position some bar in the rear suspension but im not home with the truck to try it but im considering a KWV3 coilover kit and call it done

https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ive-drive.html Been running 1.2" H&R springs on my 4.8 with AD for 7+ years. Ride is great (I don't have RFs but do run 22" Wheels in the summer), looks awesome too... Go for it! John

I'm running the 1.2 drop and rolling on 22's (w/ adaptive drive). The ride is definitely more harsh than stock suspension with cushy 20" tires. Now it's more akin to the ride in our E93 M3. At first the ride was far worse with the rear links adjusted to the length that H&R suggested in their instructions. I adjusted them to match the front drop after things settled and it is *much* better now. Perfect compromise between drop and comfort IMO.
This is my daily driver, and my wife doesn't mind the ride at all. She keeps trying to steal the X5M for herself and leave her M3 at home. The 2" drop would be too harsh. Same for coilovers. Anytime you drop a car to that low you limit the suspension travel. All the X5 weight has to go somewhere when you hit dips and bumps. If you set the dampers to absorb everything you'll get a stiff ride. If you don't, thinking you'll be getting a cushy ride, then you'll be hitting the bumpstops all the time and constantly bottoming out the suspension which is bad for component longevity (and potentially unsafe). Bottom line is lowering of any kind will sacrifice ride quality. The more you lower the more comfort will be lost. |

Just installed 1.2 H&R fronts with rear links set at 67mm. Love it. No harsh ride, no bouncing whatsoever. Less body roll cornering. Feels a little stiffer than stock but certainly worth it for the look.
Must mention that it's on stock 20's with non-runflat. The increased stiffness almost feels like the car felt with runflats. |
