2012 x5 50i idrive blank
I have a 2012 x5 50i that we purchased with 59,600 miles on it about 3 weeks ago and about a week ago the car gave a no warning tones warning on the idrive screen, the usb was not recognized, then a few days later the car would not start without the key fob in the slot.
So I read as many post as I could and figured that to reset the whole deal to disconnect the battery over night. In the morning I hooked it back up and the idrive screen is black and nothing has changed. I checked all the fuses and only one in the rear was blown 7.5 for the blue tooth I think. The heads up works all buttons on the sticks work but nothing on the idrive screen and obviously no idrive options. The car was a certified pre owned and 3 weeks later this shows up. |

Danno, I'm currently experiencing the same issue with my 2012 535i Sport! The iDrive went blank,...and no audio. I disconnected the battery,..waited 10-secs or so,..reconnected the battery and the iDrive system was alive again. However, it didn't stay on for long. I checked many fuses,...and didn't find any to be blown. I searched the net,..no remedy found. That said, I take it to the dealer,...they replaced and coded the battery! Still no iDrive. My SA said the main unit basically has a bad contact, etc. I left the dealership with no iDrive, etc.,....only for it to come on about 10 miles down the road,...most likely due to the vehicle hitting a few rough spots in the road, etc. Lastly, the dealer says it costs $1800 to replace! Yep! $1800!! So, we're planning to take the car to another dealer for a second opinion. Note, if you're still under CPO,...you're good to go! Just take it in and have 'em fix it.

My X5 isn't under warranty so after reading about a thousand post I took it to our local foreign car mechanic.
He's done work on our kids Volkswagens and he is always working on BMWs, Mercedes, and Volvos.... All the error codes were for low voltage and he installed a new agm battery, and added some fuses. The fuse part I'm not sure of but depending on options some are not needed, covering all bases I guess. Anyway he coded the battery and all is fine, except that the audio amp might be toast. He has a repair shop that specializes in these thing and if repairable they will do so. I'll update on amp in a couple of weeks. |
