2011 X6 5.0 N63, stay away?
Hi guys, been a member of this forum for a while, so much info on here. I had a 335i, then an M3, then a GTR, then married life got in the way with a house and now debating between a used 2012 X6 3.5 or a 2011 X6 5.0
I love the V8 sound but all I read about the N63 is that it's a ticking bomb. Both X6 have 60,000 miles. I could put a JB4 on the 3.5 but still prefer the V8. I've read a lot but looking for additional/new advice on the N63. Once the major recall (Customer Care Package) is done should that prevent the common damages I read everywhere? What about timing belt, battery, other common issues from 60,000+ miles? Any help or feedback would be deeply appreciated. Please don't say just stay away, but give me some more info/explanation. Thanks very much |

Basically every n63 will need valve stem seals around 70k miles. So be prepared. Essentially the n63 haves nearly every reliability issue the n62 had but with the additional problem spots of failing injectors now warrantied for 10/120k, timing guide failures and drinking oil. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/bmw-n6...ble-1705170612 I would check to see if it smokes. Warm it fully, let it idle for 5 minutes and floor it.. if it smokes insist they repair it. I'd also strongly consider less mileage or an extended warranty. For what it's worth I had good lucky with atp-205 fixing my smokey n62. I'd also recommend getting a low temp thermostat in that n63 right away. Basically I bought an s63 because it has fewer problems than my n62 or an n63. I deal, with the battery issues by hooking up a battery charger every month to fully recharge the battery. It can be worth it, but it will be high maintenance as it ages. Last edited by Thecastle; 05-21-2017 at 07:31 PM.. |

generally, are there any other issues with the S63?
