e70 X5M Owners - Looking for some advice
Hey everyone--
I've had a number of BMW's including an X5 35d and an e71 5.0 but am considering picking up a used X5M. I know the 2011 X6 5.0 I had was loaded with issues and the N63 can be a headache- knowing the S63 isn't dissimilar, I wondered if owners could chime in with their current mileage and major maintenance done. Thanks so much in advance. |

Have been in contact with service manager at local dealership who advised coolant and power steering flushes every four years, A/C recharge/refresh every 6 or 7 years, annual oil change, and air filter, brake flush and microfilter every two years. Mine has been fine. I don't drive it hard, don't have it tuned at all, and it has been good to me so far. |

2012 w/ 90k and climbing
No major issues to report so far just expensive prices for parts and maitenance power steering pump - 1.4k vacuum pump - 400 intake pipe - 400 rotors - 700 front only injectors - 120/piece x 8 fuel pumps - 250 oil change - 120 every 5k miles I'm probably forgetting other stuff as well ... |

I think the X5M is much more reliable than the 50i. Both me and my sister own X5Ms, I sold mine around 64,000 miles to a forum member. I never had any major issue, replaced the air shocks and a cooling hose. The turbo vent lines are prone to cracking. The tires are expensive to replace, but that is on any X5. I'm selling our 2011 with 45k miles if you want to consider it! Once you have an M, you won't want anything else.

I have a 2012 with 57k miles and I've had issues with a lot of stuff. I just dropped the car off at my indy shop for a valve job ($5k) because my valve seals were leaking and smoke was dumping out of the exhaust at idle. You could remedy the valve seal smoke issue for cheaper by just replacing the seals, but I decided to have them do the valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, timing cover gaskets, timing chains & tensioners, deck the heads, and new head studs.
I also asked them to replace all of the vacuum lines with new ones. This is a very common problem with the S63 and the spiderweb of vacuum lines it has. If theres any leaks or kinks in the lines your car will go into Reduced Engine Performance mode and its really difficult to tell which vacuum line is the issue. Thats why I opted to have them replace all of them. The previous owner of my car had to have the injectors replaced as well, luckily he did it under warranty because that job is not cheap either. This is another very common problem with the S63. You need to get the updated index-11(?) injectors installed. I'm sure more issues will happen I just pray its a cheap fix next time and not thousands of dollars... |

This is great reassurance. I'm picking up a 2012 with 55k miles this weekend after searching for 2 months. So pumped!!
And I still have 8 months of CPO

Gaskets and injectors are things to be expected I think.
The worry about these cars for me would be significant issues with the engine/transmission, but it does not sound like that's an issue. Vacuum lines should be an easy DIY |

The fuel injectors are part of recall or extended warranty goodwill, no?
