Brand new x6 feels underpowered! Suggestions?
Hey Guys,
My dad's 2014 x6 inline 6 has 10k KM on it. it feels a little under powered imo. doesnt pull like it supposed to. i have a LCI e92 335 and you can really feel the turbo when it kicks in. My dad also had a 2011 x5 inline 6 before this one and the power was pretty noticeable on that one too. I opened the hood and noticed a very subtle clicking noise coming from the engine. its not very loud and maybe not very noticeable, but it just doesnt sound very smooth especially for a car with such low mileage. its technically brand new. this is our first experience with an x6 so im not sure if thats what the car normally feels like (pretty slow imo and doesnt pull you back the slightest bit) or if there might be something chocking the engine (which is what im feeling). it really does not pull like you would expect it to even at high rpms. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Last edited by ashawkys; 04-21-2016 at 12:17 AM.. |

Test drive another new x6 or x5 35i. Remember it is 300hp to 5000lb. Where as the a same motor to 3400 in the 3. If u want the same power, v8. 6 is great. Get bmw stage 1 or 2. But it's still too heavy

The '11 x5 35i and '14 x6 35i should have the same engine and tranny so not sure why there is a difference. I see you have a x5 4.8i in your sig, how do you compare it to the x6 35i? |

im not sure why i feel that the '11 x5 used to pull harder than the '14 x6. Maybe that is just my feeling because i went from driving my 335 to an x6.
In general, i am disappointed in the car. kind of awkward to drive, hard to see through rear and side windows, don't like the steering feel and doesn't have air suspension like my 08 x5 (i know other models do). Thanks for your input guys! |

my 08 x5 has 350hp and I absolutely LOVE the n/a v8 i just cant get over it. it's heavier than the x6 though especially cuz it's got 7 seats. x6 is set back on hp (at 300) but superior torque from the turbo. so from that perspective they kind of cancel each other out. Not so much difference in performance overall imo. i could be very wrong, but if we put them in a drag race i reckon both would get similar results. x6 has far more tune potential though so if i were to tune it, it would destroy my x5. been driving the x6 for more than a week now, and i can tell you i prefer x5's by far over x6's now that i have experienced x6 for the first time (especially if its an LCI x5). my dad is kind of disappointed in it too, especially after owning an x5 and a Range Sport. |

Just traded in my wifes 09 3.0 x5 for a 2013 fully loaded 3.5 msport x5 with the mperformance package that is supposed to give it 15 more horsepower. You want to talk about slow her old one was completely gutless and the new one feels pretty quick to me definitely close to my old 4.8i. You may just need to get a tune for it if there is one available. It made a massive difference to my current x6 and I will probably be looking for one for her 3.5. The x5 also does have a lot of features to it that the x6 does not like the larger sunroof, rear visibility and your head dosent come close to the roof when sitting in the back.

One very simple, yet slightly expensive solution. DINAN

45min ECU/TCU software upgrade and you have a different car. I bought a 2011 X6 35i and shared the same disappointment that you describe. The second that I touched the accelerator after the re-programing....I was in love! Throttle response, shift patterns....all significantly improved... The best part was...you get the same gas mileage...because when the car is not in sport or your foot isn't in it...you get inline six, 8 speed tranny fuel efficiency. $1,300 plus installation is the downside...but it is undetectable by BMW service techs. A lot cheaper than a new car! Last edited by X5MMMMM; 05-07-2016 at 10:54 PM.. |
