2011 X5 Road walk
searched the forums with no luck. New used 2011 X5 with "road walk" at city speeds of 40 mph or less. Worse on roads with uneven lanes or surfaces. Steering pulls left or right as the edge of the tire rides over the uneven part. Is it due to the stiff walled run flat tires? Dealer says no problem with alignment. Thoughts appreciated.

Are you referring to tram lining ? If so it has to do with tread pattern on your tires. I've seen tires perform fine when new, but after some miles or even when their half worn, they start tram lining. I always that it was the grooves in the road pulling me around.

I think tramlining is the appropriate technical term. I experienced the same issue with run flats on my 2007 335i. I replaced the tires with non RFTs and the issue went away. I own a 2010 M3 now with PS2 and non RFT snow tires and have not had any issues with M3. Not enough data to confirm RFTs, but I have only experienced tramlining on RFTs.

So I doubt it's the RFT's. |

I have non RFT 275's up front and 315's in the rear. After 4000 miles. Still no tram lining. I really feel its related to the tire and tread. I had bridgestones on my last car that tram lined like crazy. I replaced with a little wider tire. 20mm up front and 30mm wider in the rear, but went with the Michelin PS2's. Zero tram lining after replacing the tires.

Has anyone figured out a way to reduce tramlining? I have got a 2011 X5 50i with 285/35R21, 325/30R21 summer and also a set of 19" 255/50R19, 285/45R19 winter that is driving me crazy. All tires are original BMW tires. I have a very even wear in the rear tires but the front tires have slightly more wear in their outside edge.
