n55 tune
Was wondering if there are any updates on available tunes for the N55 engine on the X5? As far as my search goes, the JB Performance Tuner is the only one.

JB3 Stage 1 is the only PIGGY tune avail for the X5 N55's
JB4 Stage 2 is not available for the X5 or 535 N55's (with no plans for a release either, much to my disappointment). -PAW, OE and a couple other flash tuners have FLASH's avail for the X5 N55... -OE is the only one that can flash through the OBD 2 port (if an authorized tuner is nearby to do the flash) otherwise the ECU has to be removed and sent in for a bench load like the other flash tuners require. I personally have the Jb3 and was tempted to go with OE's flash, but until they release an 'At home' handheld flash solution, I'm not in any hurry to go this route Cobb may be releasing a tune for the N55, but not sure if that includes the X5 and 535 varieties. The Issue with the X5 and 535 is the ECU programming is different than the E90's programming. Might have something to do with the 8 speed transmissions we have compared to their 6 & 7 speed's.

The Reason I gave up, is the same reason why I gave up on the JB4 for the N55 X5... Difference in programming... Unless shiv/vishnu developed a way around the difference in programming, it's gonna be a hurry up and wait scenario as well...

I had Dinan stage 2 on my 335i. At 40K miles spun a rod bearing on piston #6. Dinan took the blame and BMW wouldn't even talk to me. Whats bad is during production of N54 motors in the beginning of 2008, BMW NA had a problem with their supplier of ring bearings and failed ring bearings, yet they still played the blame game. Whole motor replaced by Dinan. Lessons learned: 1.Dinan is a great company and stand behind their products and their warranty. 2. If BMW NA even thinks you've tuned your car or can see a tune, they'll blame anything that goes wrong with your car on the tune.. even if your windshield wipers quit working! If i do anything it'll be a piggy back

Looks like the JB3 Stage 1 is the only reasonable option at this point. It kinda reminds me of the JB+ that I tried on the N54, yes there was noticeable but mild difference but not as much as a dedicated ECU piggyback like Procede.
The flash option seems cumbersome unless they come up with an OBD port flash like Cobb for the N54. I tried emailing Vishnu also about progress on the N55 X5 tune but heard nothing yet. Haven't tried contacting Burger Tuning yet. |

I love Terry (burger tuning) (for his tech support aspect), always answers my emails in regards to the JB3 N55, but when it comes to Stage 2, don't bother, they don't have plans on supporting the X5/535 N55 platform... People on N54tech have even volunteer their 535/X5's to help in getting the JB4 up and running and BMS hasn't said yes to any of them, it's a programming issue that they don't seem willing to overcome...
As I said, only one flash tuner can do it through the OBD port, (OE tuning) but they refuse to offer a handheld solution... Kind of short sighted if you ask me... If they can send the software to the authorized flash dealers who have the required OBD port hook up, why can't they charge a little more and send the software and required OBD port hookup to individual customers... Say instead of charging $695 for the tune, charge $995 for everything... If the customer still needs more direct support then he can go to a flasher to fine tune things
