Anyone try "siping" their Dueller 400's?
I just picked up my X5d yesterday and love it!
But the tires are Bridgestone Dueler H/l 400 RFT's which are maligned on the Tire Rack forum regarding winter performance. Many folks up I know (Canada, Idaho, Colorado) swear by "siping". Anyone try it with the Dueller's? I don't feel like dropping $1400 on a snow combo for a 3 yr lease! (btw I use Bridgestone Blizzak's on the 530I I own and LOVE them)

i wouldnt do it. the rubber compound for a summer tire turns to a solid block when its cold. siping them wont change that fact. it will only had spaces between the solid block of rubber, and it would be little spaces, not enough to add traction.
my last car had summer tires and i drove it once when it was 20 degrees. the car was all over the place even below 10 mph. it was scary. it was like driving on hard plastic wheels. not something i would recommend. i hate the idea of buying another set as well, but its the reality with any vehicle you buy that comes with high performance summer tires. |

You're right, about summer tires, I wouldn't even think about siping performance rubber!

your right. thought they were summer.
only other thing to note with siping is it will reduce the life of tire by a fair amount. when its warm and/or dry it creates more wear on the outside of the tire. |

I double checked the M+S and I was wrong on that. It is NOT M+S rated, which makes sense. I wonder if anyone has experience with siping...
