X6 to get new ZF 8-speed transmission…?
Hey guys – I found this article in autoblog today:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/12/a...take-on-lexus/ Has anyone heard anything about this? I wonder if they would actually put this tranny in the 2009 model year cars?? I read somewhere else that the 8-speed is actually slightly lighter than the 6-speed tranny… I’ll have to see if I can find that article too. |

morty: A friend who has a Lexus 460 says an eight-speed transmission is a two-edged sword. Acceleration is smooth and progressive, but his transmission spends a lot of time hunting at highway cruising speed. He says it never seems to figure out what gear it should be in. I wonder if eight speeds is just a ploy for bragging rights. Personally, I would rather see a good dual-clutch six speed like the one Audi uses in their smaller vehicles.

8-speed transmission is considered to be used in X6.
It will be designed by ZF for the upcoming new 7-series and it will be an option for X6 in 2010 year models. Thats what I know... I also think that 8 gears are too much for a car. However, we re talking about a BMW here. It will definitely sort it out better than Lexus...
