You're gonna have to be a whole lot more specific regarding the product being considered. Here is a good thread with all the reputable options for tuning:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1334283 I tried the JBD and it didn't work in my 2011 x5d (or I got a bum one off ebay ... in any case, I decided not to pursue it further). When I decide to do a tune some day, I think I'll go with Malone Tuning's Stage 2.5 with a deletion of the alphabet soup; they also make tunes for stock engine hardware (Stages 1 and 2): https://tunezilla.com/catalog/BMW/20...esel/Stage-2.5

I highly recommend a dde tune. The chip does increase power too but nothing compared to a dde tune. You'll make cleaner power. The jbd just tricks the fuel rail sensor not really reliable power.
Many vendors offer emissions enabled tunes.

My JBD worked, and I like JR tuning stage 2 tune. For the price and ease to remove the JBD can't be beat. Some people even stacked a DDE tune and JBD.
My experience was a EGR delete did yeild a slight increase in fuel economy. My 335d averaged 23-24mpg pre-tune, deleting my EGR and tuning I saw 29mpg on average. I also had a trans economy tune as well. |

Skip the "chip" and do a dde tune. There are plenty of quality tunes nowadays for a great price and more reliability. Dudmd is a great option that has emissions on tunes.

The JBD while not the end all be all of tunes, there are still legitimate use cases for the JBD piggy back tune. Ease of removal, ease of compliance with emissions tests, ease of installation, and low price, just to name a few. Interesting, never heard of there being lots of under hood water in the vicinity of the fuel rail sensor on M57 engines. Never heard of the JBD being placed in a water logged area under hood and leaking. But I suppose anyone can have problems. I can say I never had any of these issues. But then again lots of people got excited about the fluid damper, and I had tons of issues with mine (replaced it 3x due to defects in the design). 1st one rusted, 2nd one had idle vibrations, 3rd one was finally good. Over the years there have been reports of some peoples uncalibrated butt dynos thinking the jbd overtime looses the ability to increase power. But a lot of folks are thrilled by the initial performance of any tune and overtime feel like the car needs more... However, no one has posted objective data to show that the car adapts to fuel rail distortion in a way the alters the the JBD's performance overtime, lots of dyno proof it does work. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1428076 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=833600 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=602366 Its one of those things, I used one for about 18 months and it definitely made a difference. Before I went with JR Tuning and an EGR delete. I still have one in my garage along with a spare DDE and other parts. |

Burger Motorsports JBD buyer beware https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1729058 I know it works it just makes more sense to me to just go with a full dde tune instead and they aren't terribly expensive nowadays. Dudmd is around $500 I know. Jr is a bit overpriced but does the job too. I used the jbd too but I was tired of clearing codes and power delivery is way better with a tune. It helps if you trans is tuned though. For me though it was a bad investment and I could of just put that money towards a dde tune
