New! Tuning Option (MHD FLASH N55) 35i E70/71
First off, I am not associated with nor do I represent MHD in any fashion there of. This is strictly an informative thread to let those who own a 2010-2013 X5 35i another tuning alternative.
I believe I am the first X5 35i to have successfully use the MHD tuning option. This release was just updated early this morning after speaking with MHD on options for our vehicles and another DME version they weren't aware of. I'm sure some of you might have some FAQ's so below is the original post for MHD off the e90post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...5#post20764655 Read the thread for more overview, make sure to follow the steps regarding the DME version. First impression: I automatically feel no turbo lag from just taking off in the car itself. It drives very smooth, I feel constant boost and it does pull pretty hard for only being the stage 1 on 91oct. I wanted just a little pick me up and I feel it's been succeeded. I will try to find other ways to monitor how much boost is now being utilized. It has been said it has jumped from the standard 9 psi to roughly 12-14 psi. I've used MHD tuning since they were first around and I've had zero issues with them __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __ Below is some helpful info regarding the stages and how many lbs of boost/tapering with this tune per which stage/mods are installed to your specific vehicle. Stage 1 is 12-13psi taper down to 9psi Stage 1+ is 15psi Stage 2 is 13-14psi taper down to 11-12psi Stage 2+ is 16-18psi depending on fuel variant While Stage 1+ might see a higher PEAK boost target it will taper very quickly. The reason for the increased taper is because the Stage 1 and 1+ maps were designed for a car with a stock downpipe. The stock downpipe has a restrictive cat in it that will cause EGT's to increase quickly. The taper is used to keep EGT's low to prevent turbo damage. The Stage 2 and 2+ maps were designed for catless downpipes which are less restrictive, there for EGT's are not an issue and boost doesn't need to taper as aggressively. Stick with Stage 1+ for a daily map, if you want to play around you can run the Stage 2+ map but refrain from repeated pulls, give it a couple minutes to cool down. If it is hot outside, again do not make repeated pulls as your stock intercooler will heatsoak quickly. ***********************ATTENTION BELOW PER MHD TUNING********************************* It's time for MHD to enter the open beta state on N55 E Series! You'll find below the product description. The app is in an open beta state. It is fully functional but may need here and there some polish. Currently only the stage 1 maps (stg1 and 1+ for acn91-91-93-95oct) are available. It won't take long before we add the stage 2 maps, maybe a week. So long the stage 2 maps are not available, you can purchase a stage 2 license and flash the stage 1 maps. And once the stage 2 are available, your stage 2 license will be valid for the stage 2 maps. The user guide is a good place to start, especially is you need a reliable KDcan cable (page 5 of the user guide, available in the app or at http://www.twisted-visionz.com/mhdguide). Have fun, drive safe and we're looking forward to your feedback - both in terms of logs and driving experience. The maps will quickly evolve as we get the precious community's feedback. ================================================== ========================================== MHD Flasher is the first Android handheld application to bring ECU tuning and monitoring to the BMW N55 engine for E series. Requires the Flasher module. - Monitor module: $69 FAQ Q: Can I test the connection before making a purchase? A: Yes, simply tap the MHD Store button. The ECU connection is checked before displaying available purchases. Q: Does my Android device need to be permanently plugged to the OBD port? A: No. Once a flash is performed you can unplug your device. Q: Do I lose my licenses if I delete the app or the Android device breaks? A: No. licenses are stored online by Google, you can use your purchases on another device as long as you use the same account on Play store. Q: Do I need to purchase a new license each time I flash a map? A: No, you can ref lash as many times as needed. Q: Is a battery charger required? A: It is highly recommended for long flashes (install, uninstall). A healthy battery will handle short flashes (map changes) fine but the use of a battery charger remains recommended. Q: How can I determine if the DME is directly flashable or needs a one time bench flash? A: got to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN in serial number. Click Browse parts the ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and check both CONTROL UNITS > MEVD1726 section. If the it says "No parts found matching your car." you have a MEVD172 which is directly flashable.

To answer your questions, yes there is a better throttle response which really makes a difference. I haven't tried the liner throttle option, this weekend I'll mess around with more settings after I find my tablet charger.

That is very true also, granted I can't see myself spending over $500+ on that tune vs. this tune being way cheaper. Plus a protune is an option as well, maybe not as much because Cobb has been around awhile. However, MHD is still producing great numbers. N54 platform shows and I'm sure once more information about the N55 is shown you'll see the same trend.

Have you tested the tune out on the 335 yet? I know I enjoyed on my N54 335i(s) and stuck with MHD due to the products results

How is the MHD flash done? I'm interested in it, alittle bored of BMS juice box.
DINAN just released a stage2 for N55's. calmed to produce 400 lbs Tq & over 355HP. But for a hefty cost $1,399

Check this post out from e90post and it'll show you EXACTLY what you need to do. Flash takes roughly 35mins, that is what I experienced and I have ZERO issues. It's still the BETA phase so eventually with more feedback and logging it'll produce better OTS maps. However, there is a noticeable difference and since you already have the BMS juice box. You can compare to see if it honestly is better for you/noticeable. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...5#post20764655

the throttle feels a bit more responsive. i haven't driven enough on both to see a major difference. both cars are definitely way better than stock. do you feel your tranny upshifts a lot sooner? seems like the torque converter is locking up quicker. haha yea it does want to pull to redline better than stock on both. smoother curve. i felt like the bms peaked higher at 3k rpm but this may be smoother. not sure need to drive me. i did measure the boost, with bms, highest i got was around 10psi, this on my 335i n55 i'm seeing 12 psi. using torque app. i'll check the x5 soon. turbo sounds like it's spooling up higher. Definitely keep giving feedback man, I'm sure the X5 will be the subject to test due to the weight difference of your 335. But either way the smoother quality of drive won't change from either vehicle

Haha yeah it has to be for sure, if I was aiming towards FBOs in the X5 I surely would post up a review with some dyno numbers. But this is just the DD/family car so nope lol Weekend warrior is between a GTR or another Evo 8/9 again

My situation is im running SprintBooster so my throttle is light as a feather on D,it's not really useable because it always was to downshift to the lowest gear and fly. I always use Tiptronic shifting so I control my gears bacause SprintBooster(red mode) is Out of control wth the BMS. BMS without SprintBooster is child's play for the X5, times I've turned off the booster I feel like it's a 4cly turbo.
I really wish I can see what type of PSI im getting with the BMS. I have ICarly app pro but can't seem to get a boost monitor going. Guys really invest in a SprintBooster I wouldn't bullsht you, you will never get bored of ur power, it really kills all throttle lag what's so ever.

As far as this being available for the iOS I believe it's only android, I saw someone ask on the e90post so I'm just referencing off of what MHD has stated
