1st questions X6M
Just purchased my 1st BMW and it's a 2012 X6M with 30k miles from an out of state BMW dealer who will be shipping it to me. I did test drive it first.
The car is still under warranty and I would like to have a multi-point inspection done of the car that they weren't planning on doing. I was told it wasn't up for a any service intervals (which I know nothing about yet). This would be a good time to find any issues and get them fixed. Is my request normal? Should I wait and bring it into my local dealer? Any other comments of what I should be doing at this point appreciated. John |

Congratulations!
By 30k miles it should have had 2 services, I believe. Each 15k miles. If you already bought the car, and the inspection results won't change that, then I'd say do it at local dealer. Check the forums here for some common issues though I am not sure of years. My 2013 had a clicking noise from front suspension, which required replacement of control arm to fix. It's a bulletin out by BMW to their service techs, so if you get the car and get the clicking noise, it should be an easy fix. That's the only issue I've had so far in 21k miles. Well that and my MPG meter is off but I haven't bothered to get it fixed yet. Oh and, plan to add oil just about every 5k miles. She will be thirsty; they all seem to burn oil. I've added a quart consistently every 5k. Whereabouts in Florida are you? |

DDK, Central Fl. Car still under 30k so likely 2nd service not done yet. Same blue as yours it looks.
I'm perfectly willing to pay for the service...I had thought that would have been normal procedure. |

Nice choice on the color, then. It's called Monte Carlo Blue, and is an M color, meaning you won't find non-M X6s with the same color.
Definitely have local dealer do it. You'll be bringing the car there and building a relationship, so might as well start now. As for normal procedure, who knows. I think they do the minimum they can get away with. |

Just a guess here, but I bet you followed BMW's break-in rules right? (seriously, not being a smartass here just going with a theory).

I'm not saying I follow it, and I'm not saying I don't But a friend of mine that follows it with new BMWs reports no oil consumption between yearly oil changes.
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm And most of the people that report oil consumption every 1-5K claim to have followed BMW's procedures for break-in to the letter. I also picked up PCD and varied my speed (and did tail of the dragon and have had to add one quart in the 3 years I've owned the X6). The quart was at 12K....

Funny enough, my previous X6 (not an M) was a demo and had some miles on it, I don't recall the exact number. Never burned any oil. At least not enough to where I had to add any in between regular service intervals. Although it had the N54 engine which I am not sure is known for burning oil or not. I don't doubt it was driven hard with no regard to break-in. I didn't pay as much attention with that car, it was a lease which I didn't plan on keeping. The X6M is my baby so I mostly followed the break-in. She was a keeper from day 1 I have broken in several brand new Ducati's and followed the recommended break-in guidelines, similar in practice to what I did with the X6M, and they've done extremely well. How many miles do you have on your X6 now? Note also I tend to drive mine pretty hard somewhat often. Let's say she has made good friends with the governor and has met him on many, many occasions That may be a contributing factor, no? |

Personally I think the most important part is varying the rpm. You can chose to hit or not hit the red line, but never drive at constant rpm.
I tried to drive mountain roads as much as possible for my first 1200 miles and my X5M isn't burning any oil. |

DDK, Good idea with starting relationship with new dealer. I think mileage is 28k so I'll be in soon enough.
Anything I should bring up for the 30k inspection? Reading the forum here it looks like injectors tend to go but don't necessarily reveal. Will claiming lowered power get them to check it or do they have equipment that checks them properly anyway at the inspection? Interesting on the oil burn. I've broken in lots of new engines in the past. It's all about seating the rings properly in non-turbo engines. Not sure where the oil is being burned up for those of you that have to add oil. My previous X6 burned oil every 5k or so. Seemed like a common issue with the v8. Just finished breaking-in my x6m and will report back. Btw, love the Monte Carlo Blue color, definitely feel like I made the right choice. Especially with the red interior!

If I have time today I will bust out my manual and see what else needs to be checked around not only 30k but also the 2 year mark.
As for injectors, you can ask dealer to drive the car and if it feels slow they will check them, but only if there is an error code. They can diagnose the car and look for error codes. I had this done and there were no error codes, so we concluded I just got used to the power. After driving an X1 28i loaner for a couple of days, the X6M no longer felt slow at all, in any way, shape, or form... Hey @Tailwinds, if you ever head down to Miami area with your new X6M, give me a shoutout if you would like to get together and do a photoshoot of 2 MCB X6M's. Would be badass.
