Upgrading E70 X5 Angel Eyes Halo Rings to LEDs - What do you recommend?
Hey guys,
Thought this topic may be of interest to everyone looking to upgrade their halogen angel eyes to the LEDs as seen on the LCI X5. Seems to be quite a common add on and quite easy to do these days for pre-LCI E70 X5 owners like myself so I need your help in telling me which is the best to buy for my car. What is the best (by best I mean brightest and most even) LED option for the E70? Thanks in advance fellow bimmers. |

Apparently Early E70 X5s don't use an H8 globe (on Aus spec cars - many US sites say the E70 uses an H8 bulb) - they use the same bulb as the E53. Is this true fellow X5 owners?

I bought these after I wasn't impressed with the LUX for the E70 AE's. On my E60 M5 both rings are bright but obviously the inner rings are always brighter as that is where the bulbs are placed so it would stand to be brighter. On the E60 M5 the lights carry through the rings better probably since it is smaller ring diameters for light travel.
On the E70's the outer rings no matter which I had aren't as bright. These ebay ones are white and bright on the inners and not too bad on the outers. Better than the LUX V3 that I had. Not sure about the V4's but its not important enough for me to upgrade again as I am happy with them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130764789973...84.m1497.l2649 This the seller I bought them from. Came in quickly and installed in minutes without a hitch. |

I have the Lux kit installed, however I've noticed that the newer X5 with the factory LEDs looks much brighter. How is that achieved? Is it a different LED system? two LEDs on each ring?

The LCI's updated Corona Rings are LED's and are not bulbs like the H8 bulbs for the AE's that were not LED's but H8 Bulbs. The LED H8 upgrade will never achieve the updated LED LCI Angel Eyes that are on the newer BMW's.
To achieve the same look you would need Orion V4's which are LED rings and are as bright if not brighter than the new LED Angel Eyes from BMW. You would have to cut into your headlights and have them installed. Not a hard task to install more so to cut your expensive headlights and seal them back up correctly. I purchased the CREE 20W from EBAY for $77.00 shipped and they are better than the LUX V3 I had. Not sure about LUX V4 but I am sure they are equal if mine are better than V3. |

Skunkd - I heard there were a set of V4's coming out to be brighter so don't assume that I never had the V3's.
MTEC V4's. Same difference to me. Also. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=712501 Keep your assumptions to yourself. I have no need to lie about owning LED's. Just because I made a small error I must have lied about it. Really? I appreciate your helping me out on the Springs tips for the X5 but don't appreciate you calling me a liar. I am ALPINE_X5 on XOUTPOST. You PM's me about springs installation. Last edited by APLINE_997; 01-26-2013 at 06:18 PM.. |

Here are some pics. It was too cold outside for me to setup my good camera to take better night shots. I did make some changes on my small camera to capture the rings only without the harsh brightness you generally get. It was toned down so the brightness is less than actual but you will get a good feel for them. I also included the normal shots where the lights overpower the lens but that gives you a sense of their brightness as well. |

None of the aftermarket options will look even close to LCI; notice how almost no one publishes daylight pictures - the outer rings are nearly invisible, regardless whether it's cheap ebay, mtec, lux, whatever...

Have settled for a set of LUX H8 V3 Angel Eyes. Hands down from I have read and heard they are the premium LED Angel Eyes you can buy at the moment. All I'm trying to work out now is whether the Australian delivered E70 X5's pre-LCI came with H8 Angel Eye bulbs from the factory.
If SOMEONE CAN CONFIRM THE ABOVE QUESTION THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED Nice X5 M mrmomo313 |

I had MTEC AE and am very happy with them..IMO, you cant go wrong with either MTEC or Lux..I was wanting to get Lux but at that time Lux was out of stock..
Rob32R, My X5 is pre LCI and they use H8 for AE..mine is 2009 35d..not sure if others are the same..hope that helps Cheers |

Good to see another X5 member from Australia on board. Are you from Sydney?
I did look at the MTEC AE's and when priced next to LUX they were pretty much the same in terms of price bracket of the sub $200 mark. My BMW X5 is a 2007 E70 pre-LCI which is pretty much exactly the same car as mine being a diesel. It be good to get all the Aus X5 members together. |

Day time running
Hi
I have a 2013 X5M. thinking about adding daytime running lamps from Bimmian and mounting them in the tops of the intake vents. Has anyone tried this and if so, we're there any problems? (E.g. Programming issues, etc) Thanks |
