I have a 2009 X6 50i with the N63, I’m a new user and can’t PM. Did these kits ever go into production JellyStyle Sophisticated Redneck?

There are many of us eagerly awaiting for these to become available. I'm about to order a whole new replacement engine from BMW (for $4K plus core charge of $2.4K) and would love to have this to install it when doing the replacement. Would love to keep the new one as clean as possible internally.

I have a 2019 xdrive50i with the N63. I can’t see any connection from the actual crank case. It all seems to come from the valve covers. Is there one I can’t see and where does it go? I don’t see anything that feeds from the crank case itself to any part of the intake. What is this vacuum line you speak of? Was it eliminated in later versions of the N63? Are there aftermarket valve cover connector replacement? This is all I can find for parts for crank case ventilation for my version.

it does not connect to the crankcase. it is only connected from both valve covers to T and Y fittings, to the intake manifold, and to the turbo charged air side before the intercoolers.

I pulled the airbox looking at some intake stuff and see a tube that comes from the block that connects on the driver side head vent. It’s not very clean as it comes from the crank case. The ones from the head that feed back to the intake were perfectly clean. I am going to run my catch can just in that line and let it feed back into the system as it’s connected. This should keep everything clean and still pull the right vacuum.

I think I saw your post in another thread but I also have the n63tu3. Any additional pics on the tube you accessed? It sounds like we could use 3 catch cans: one for each intake tube, and the one coming from the crank case.

I still don't get the need for the spring check valve given the tank is simply in line and a continuous closed system. Maybe it's a different pcv system on the newer n63.

There are really 3 tubes. One for each valve cover that feed into their corresponding air intake tube and one from the crank case that feeds into bank 2 valve cover tube. Seems weird they did it this way but they did. I put my catch can inline with the crank case before it feeds into bank 2s vacuum from the valve cover. The original design in theory is still in place. The only difference is that I catch and filter the dirty air from the crank case before it gets to bank 2. The hoses from the valve to the intake tubes are very short so it was difficult to do anything with them. I probably could have replaced all the hose with some silicone tube but I thought I would try this first. I have been monitoring the side, bank 2 to see if the can is working and it seems to be. I don’t see any gunk getting through.

The check valves keep any air from creating positive pressure in the heads or crank case. I’m not really sure how that could happen in a system that is a natural vacuum. Engineers thought they should be there so they are. If they were not there I am not sure what would or could happen. In my case the valve had so much gunk in it. It wasn’t working at all. I’m not even sure bank 2 was getting any vacuum at all to draw off any vapors. I did change my plugs this week and looked at the cylinder tops. They all looked good, even bank 2.

I took 2 90 degree elbows and cut about an inch of material just after it comes out of the crank case. In my case, there is an air intake tube from the front to the air box that it sits under. From there it routes to the can and back. Just in a few weeks I have noticed that the can is doing its job well. There has been about a shot glass of water liquid that smells similar gasoline and some whitish slimy stuff in the can. It’s easy to empty and being something I am interested to see how it performs I have been checking frequently. I will check it less frequently as I now know it’s doing its job. You could spend 125$ for a can or 20$ for a can, I have both. The 125$ on my sons B48 X3 and the 20$ on my X5 N63R/N63TU. I just did his 2 days ago and it’s doesn’t have enough hours on it to check. His car doesn’t have a check Valve for what that’s worth.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Hopefully that was a decent summary. I did see one where a guy filtered his valve as well but i didn’t see any need to as the one that didn’t have the crank case to it was spotless. I might do something different with it later and filter all 3 but for now there doesn’t seem to be a need.

Ya, newest n63 have an elaborate oil separation system but I'm sure this too gets fouled or overpowered under increased boost.

I'll try this and see what happens, May do all three actually.

I guess if you don’t have those then I would filter the valve covers. The guy that originally posted what gave me the idea must have had an engine that pre-dated these. In that case I am sure it’s a good idea to filter all 3. He had a very elaborate system. It seems like a simpler system is possible. I would think you could run both valve covers into a T then to the can, back out of the can into another T. It gets weird quickly because somewhere you have to plug the crank case into that system. I guess that’s why his system seemed complicated to me. I get it now. He spent a lot of time work and engineering that to make it work correctly. I would follow his model in that case.
