Turbocharger water pump, literally tried everything to unsuccessfully clear 2AE9 code
Help. 2013 X5 5.0 M-sport 99k miles.
Car is new to me. I had the normal 2EA9 code. Turbocharger coolant pump, electrical. Ok, standard problem. Replace the pump and it should be fine. Nope. So, I start diving into the car to try and find the problem...and have continued to try and find the problem for weeks. I started by clearing all of the codes after pump replacement. 1. I have ground at pin 1 on the pump. Continuity to chassis ground. 2. I have 12v on pin 2 at the pump. 3. I have continuity on the signal wire (pin 3) from the pump to the DME, Pin 13, X60002. 4. The two 30 amp fuses in the engine box fuse location that houses the DME are good. The blue relay is good. 5. All other fuses that I can find, are good. 6. There are no other faults in the car 7. When I remove the signal wire from the DME, the pump runs, so the pump is good and has appropriate power to operate. 8. When I test probe pin 13, X60002 on the DME, I get 0V. When I use the ISTA test plan to run the pump, it doesn't run and I still only have 0V on the DME pin. 9. I sent the DME to TheECUpro to have it tested and they said the DME works on their test car, so it should be good, however, I'm skeptical since the more I read, the more I sense they didn't test the exact issue in their normal testing plan. I'm beginning to believe that there is an internal short that they didn't pick up. 10. I've tested the BSD bus and unplugged the oil level sensor, the alternator and the IBS to see if it removed noise from the line, and nothing changed. However, the more I read, the turbo pump isn't on the BSD line and is directly connected to the pump with a PWM (pulse width modulation). 11. I tried a different pump (I used an OEM Pierburg pump) and 2nd pump didn't work either. 12. I used a fly signal wire outside of the harness and it didn't work. It would seem the wiring is good, the pump is good, the dme is good and there's no reason why it shouldn't work, but it doesn't. The issue as I see it, the DME isn't sending the wake up signal to the turbo pump. No matter what, the voltage at pin 13 X60002 at the DME is always 0V. When activated, it should measure 3V. That would seem to indicate a bad DME, however, maybe it's short circuit locked like the FRM can get with a bad bulb? Could Tool32 somehow clear the issue? Not sure if that even works on a DME. I don't know what else to do and if anyone has any suggestions, I'd gladly try anything. I keep hoping that I'm missing something simple, but I don't know what that could be. Help. Seems you have Standard Tools installed? Maybe flash the DME with WinKFP and see if there is something weird with the flash?

The more and more I'm reading, I think the DME is actually bad. When the DME is a 0V on that line, it's essentially turning off the pump. It uses a modulating voltage to increase or decrease the speed. In using google ai, which has me incredibly impressed, there is an easy test to see if the that trace and associated IC is bad on the DME. If I try to test continuity from pin 13 directly to the DME case, and I get no resistance, that means the IC on that circuit is toast and has grounded, which means that the pump will never run and I have the error code. If so, then it's repair or clone time for my DME.
