Would Have Been Nice If...............
........some engineer at BMW incorporated a hook to hold up the spare tire compartment while you remove an item from there!
Has any one devised a nice looking method to accomplish this feat. Caddy SRX has a lanyard and hook. |

The German version has a strut to hold it up. There's also a retrofit kit for our vehicles as well so it can be done. Do a search.

You can also hook it to the cargo cover when the cover is extended. I found this out when I picked my vehicle after a service and they had left it up.

A search for what? You don't have to search it for me but if you were going to search what words would you use? I tried cargo, strut, lift with no luck.

The X6 actually has the gas strut to hold it up. My friend's X5 has the mounting points and looks to be easily retrofitted.

Thanks. That part number did not work but I did find it. Aslo placed a second order with them that has been processing for the past three hours. No way to cancel it and do not want to do it again out of fear I will duplicate the order.
Any idea how to cancel an order. Site leaves a lot to be desired. Also do you find their shipping and handling out of proportion with reality but if you need it you need it. |

The early X5's had a strut but the bean counters told them to eliminate it to save a buck a vehicle. Decontenting at its best. Even the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a strap with a hook to hold it open.
