Question Regarding Breather Hoses

As title states have some questions regarding these hoses

First Off I know I’m going to get fast since I do not have my own OBD two reader. I wasn’t sure which one to get so I never got it which I know is my fault.

So I was starting to have issues while I was driving the other day. I went to go pass another vehicle that was driving a lot slower than I was and while I was passing her, I got a malfunction message that said engine malfunction pull over immediately so I do I turned the car off let to hang out for a few minutes and it goes back to normal and has it happen for a few weeks. It happened again

I took it to my local mechanic. They ran some time and a bunch of codes came up, which he stated he cleared. I have the paperwork if it helps to note to see that.

I went back today to see if I could get it fixed and he told me that the breather hoses need to be replaced. I should’ve had him send me a picture of the diagram that he would. He was showing me, but I didn’t again my fault. I understand the pictures he did show me there’s two hoses apparently that need to be replaced. The one hose was stated for $155 and the second hose was $375. Labor was another 350

So basically, I’m just looking for some insight or advice from anybody who has dealt with this situation or is familiar with it as well. This was my dream car which I now probably shouldn’t have bought it, but I love the vehicle and if you guys could help me so that I am able to properly maintain it I would be greatly appreciative. I change the oil with nothing but liquid Molly use nothing but top-tier gasoline and make sure all of the top-of-the-line stuff is used.

I definitely feel as if the price is that were quoted were a lot more expensive than they need to be just from the little research that I’ve done but again I’m not sure which part I’m exactly looking at or four so if somebody could help me, I would greatly appreciate it And yes, I know I need to get to know to scanner as well so if anybody could recommend one that is better for the E 70 platform I would appreciate that as well. You guys are awesome and I appreciate any and all info thank you and hopefully I’m able to get this fixed quicklyand for hopefully less than what was quoted lol thanks guys and ladies.

You need to replace all of the PCV crankcase breather hoses. ONLY BUY BMW OEM:

a) Two Filtered Air Ducts(Bank1 and Bank2) (Part #13717589651, 13717589652)
b) One crossover hose (Part #11157595188)
c) Need two vent pipes(diagram, Part 1 and 2)(Part #11157589989, 11157589992)

Thank you for your reply. It is greatly appreciated. If you don’t mind taking a look at a few of these pictures I’m gonna post and confirm or deny those are the pieces that I need I would owe you my life seriously I went to two different Auto places to try to figure out which pieces they are in the first place had no idea and the second placeI just seemed to irritate him because it didn’t seem like he knew too much either on this vehicle so if you could take a look like I said, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again for replying. It means the world.

Again, I was told it was numbers six and seven on that diagram that need to be replaced. I can attach what the mechanic sent me which is just what I need if that helps you as well also and do you feel as if $350 to replace those parts a lot if you don’t mind me asking?

The two hoses priced by him were

Hose one was $155

Hose two was $375

Again, I feel like I can find them cheaper elsewhere like FCP OR ECS tuning Or how Google for that matter but again, I’d appreciate it if you could help me out

If I’m not mistaken, you’re saying I need additional parts that aren’t included in the diagram that I posted or the one that you posted?

Cause I was told I just needed to replace the two hoses when in reality I need to replace four hoses? Again I’m sorry if it sounds like it’s coming from somebody doesn’t know what he’s talking about because that’s what’s really happening. Sorry I’m a newbie and sorry for inconveniencing anybody, but I greatly appreciate the help again

I apologize I didn’t know I directly could reply right to your post. Just the more I’m thinking about this the more aggravated I’m getting because it seems like the mechanic that I used doesn’t know what he’s talking about and decided to charge me to not know what he’s talking about. I would rather pay you to help me then to go back to this mechanic so if you don’t mind, please help me out. I’ll Cash app you whatever it is dude I just want my car to run normally and not feel like it’s feeling now. I understand it’s a BMW. It’s gonna cost money to replace the parts. I understand all of that But to go to mechanic that is completely incompetent is infuriating and the only reason I went there was because all he had was imports lined up he literally had a Porsche an Audi a Lamborghini all of these different vehicles were at the mechanic so now it really makes me wonder if they even know if they know what they’re doing on those vehiclesor if it was just he took advantage of me. But I appreciate you listening to me then, thank you again for all your help.

Find a mechanic who has experience on BMW.... even if you have to drive 50-100 miles away. Buy those 5 hoses I listed(Part numbers all there!) and get them installed. You can save hundreds in labor, by DIY. It's not hard - just takes time... no special BMW ISTA computer necessary.

Sorry to reply so late. I greatly appreciate all of the info u had given me. The part number for the last intake duct u sent me is a different one than was listed. I attached a screenshot for reference. It looks the same as mine. I just want to make sure before I buy. Did they just update the part number?

Also I said that theres a lot of check valves, is there anything I should look out for if I replace myself? It seems easy enough but I’m not a mechanic, clearly lol.

Is there anything else u would recommend to change out? Besides those 5 parts? Again I greatly appreciate ur help. U guys r awesome n have another question about my stereo if u dont mind giving me some insight

All of the sudden i have no bass and no sound from rear speakers. It’s really odd cuz I can hear out of all the front speakers and I think the rear door. But the trunk speakers and subs underneath the seats get nothing. Is this an amp problem? I can’t stand driving the car right now n I love it but it sounds like 💩!! Plz reply when u can.

Again thank for ur info. I do really appreciate it.

For the rear sound issues it sounds like your rear amp is either wet or blew a fuse. My x6 is notorious for water ingress from the sun roof tubes getting clogged

For the breather hoses , you can chop them up and put in catch cans. I did this and am happy with the results. Still have to clean up the mountings and stuff. You can search for catch cans here in advanced search and see the original post by sophisticated red neck. He has links to the cans from Amazon and the hoses with clamps. You do need to be able to tap plastic and chop up the factory connections. So you'll need a vise to hold things in place, the proper drill bit for the thread taps, etc.

did you find the catch can post? its here:

https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show...ight=catch+can

i did this initial catch can project. you will see in that thread there is talk about a 2nd project and different parts but that never came to fruition. so the inital one is good enough, just doesnt look as appealing as the prototypes.

I see the 3 port catch can is presently out of stock on amazon. The two I have are:

(2) Catch Cans: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F12W7BX

(2) Vacuum control valves: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081TJQ52

(1) 8AN braided line kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077GSGDC5

(1) 6AN braided line kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CZWDLLN

(8) 8AN to 3/8"NPT adapters: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DQQJQ38

(2) 6AN to 1/8"NPT adapters: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRZD92P

And here are the optional adapters if you want to install boost gauges

(2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088KLRQVD
(2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0095Z2C2A
(2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0838KCK72
(2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XRZD92P

Keep in mind you will need more and different adaptors that what are listed here. I found some adapters needed a 45 degree angle or a 90 degree angle, etc etc.

So you will need to purchase additional pieces and return what you dont need/use.

Make sure you study the photos of hte brass valves as you could possibly install the spring and plunger backwards. You also have the cut the spring about 1/8inch shorter to allow more adjustment, which SR explains in his thread posts. Post here if you have any questions
