Brake Pad?
So I got into my brakes last night and got everything apart opened up the package for the new pads and saw the new pads do not have the 3 clips that go into the pistons.
These are the pads I have Hawk Performance HB387Z.547 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad. Do performance pads not have the 3 clips on the back of the pads? Or did I get sent or order the wrong pads? I just put everything back together and called it a night at 9:30. Thanks..... |

I guess you should not attempt to do brakes when you are extremely tired. So the piston clip comes off and goes on the new brake pads.
I'm a Effing idiot, sorry for the lame question. |

Wha? I've never seen that before...the clip on the back of the pad that goes into the piston on the rear brakes is removable? I just did brakes a month ago and the new pads had all three clips...a left, right, and upper that clipped into the inner ring of the piston. Did you have Hawk before? Maybe a hawk thing?

Well that is what the tech at the BMW dealership told me. I find out tonight when I tear them apart again. What pads did you? My pads where OEM BMW I believe.
I'll be pissed if I tear into it again and find out they don't come off. I did not even open up the Hawk wrapper to see if they have a hole for the old piston clip. I open them up first to see if there is before I tear it apart again. |

I used Powerstop pads. I think BMW must have been talking about the anti rattle shim clips. The clips on the pads are normally riveted on. I don't think 2 vs 3 clip arms is a huge problem so long as the rest of the pad matches.

Yeah all the pads I have bought had the piston clip riveted on the pads. I've never seen it be removable. I'd call up the place you bought them.
Oh and when looking up those pads, the part# would suggest those fit the fronts of various Infiniti and Nissan models. |
