Opinions on what to do with a blown 2013 X5 35d

Hey all,

Not new here, but rarely if ever post given our current lifestyle (tiny little kiddos).

Anyway, I have a 2013 X5 35d and recently blew the engine on it. It has 206k miles and it's always been great, but I think I starved a turbo and the engine inhaled it

Unfortunately, this happened while away from home so the car is sitting at a shop in Des Moines, IA (confirmed the engine is 'cratered') and I live in Milwaukee, WI 350 miles away.

I figure my options are:

1. Try and sell it in Des Moines to someone interested in fixing or parting it out
2. Go get it and trailer it back to Milwaukee, then sell it here.
3. Go get it and then pull the engine and rebuild it (won't know if possible until I rip the entire thing out and apart)
4. Go get it and then replace the engine
5. Go get it and part it out myself

Vehicle is in good shape for 206k miles... but it's not immaculate by any means.

I don't really have the time to rebuild it or replace the engine with the littles running around, but if people think that truly is a great idea I'd love to hear why.

Thoughts on the best course of action?

Thanks,
Shane

Also, if you want the vehicle, holler!

I'd donate it to NPR, Make a Wish Foundation, or a similar non profit that accepts vehicles. They usually have a $1,500 minimum sale that you can you take off taxes. Sucks but a lot easier than all the other options.
