E70 X5m Dinan Tune Throwing Fault Codes
Hi all,
I've had the dinan ECU tune installed on my E70 x5m for the last couple months and have been absolutely loving it. However, recently sometimes I've been getting an engine malfunction/reduced power light when I get on it (usually around redline). I ran the codes and see the following DME faults:
I did a quick lookup and some of them look to be related to the turbos and boost pressure. I love the tune but don't want to sacrifice the longevity of my car. Frankly I went with Dinan because I thought it was known as a more conservative tune so I'm concerned that I'm already having these issues. I'm going to go to my mechanic on Monday but have a feeling he'll likely tell me to just uninstall it. So I pose it to you all - what should I do here? Thanks in advance. |

More power will always have an effect on longevity. It's all about your tolerance for risk/longevity. If you have none, take it off.

My car has been tuned since last summer as well by Velos, no codes etc for anything from the tune. I've not hear of anyone with the Dinan tune having issues either. I know it's a dumb question, but are you sure you got the tune for the right car?

Thanks for the input, appreciate it. Definitely the right tune. I’m wondering if it may have just exasperated an existing issue.

A tune is done on the assumption that everything on the car is in good mechanical condition. It will accelerate wear and tear so yes, it will worsen any existing issues.

If the mechanic has ISTA it should narrow down the main code that's causing the issue. It may also run some diagnostics to test the sensors. |

You've been running a tune for a few months and its throwing faults now, that's not related to the tune, it's related to a faulty or broken part in your car...

First thing I would do with any of these boost related codes, is make sure that your turbo inlets and the vent pipes are in good shape, including the check valves and seal going into the turbos.

Thanks everyone for weighing in. I had all of the boost solenoids replaced but the problem persists. I’m going to reflash it back to stock and see what happens.

You haven't mentioned mileage, but 30FF and all those other codes are nothing new to the BMW twin turbo world, check out the N54 forums. Just because others with the same tune haven't gotten codes means absolutely nothing because there time will come too. Start with simple stuff like vacuum lines, hard plastic lines for the CCV system, but more often than not it's turbos rebuild time, period.
