window MSRP sticker shows $50 first aid kit, but the same kit is only $27 from parts?

I noticed the windows MSRP sticker on my loaner BMW shows a $50 first aid kit. It's in the trunk right now. The same identical first aid kit is sold at my BMW dealer's parts dept for just $27.

Can anyone tell me how that makes any sense? I'm guessing the loaner was ordered with just a bunch of random options/packages. Do actual customers ever place orders for new BMWs and specify a $50 first aid kit? (when they can just pick one up from parts for $27)

The dealer probably rust coated it and filled it with nitrogen.

there's a dealer add-on sticker next to the window sticker.

they have the balls to charge $249 for nitrogen-filled tires. Costco charged me nothing to fill up my tires with nitrogen. (although I did buy my tires there... was told that they would do it for OEM tires for free if I asked nicely)

Accessories and add-ons are one of the biggest selling expensive ticket items for new car owners. Manufacturers and dealers are all pushing to sell us more. There’s a fever that hits many new buyers because it’s a big purchase and they want everything possible for their new ride.
It’s a thriving industry.

I'm in a major metro area so have multiple BMW dealerships around. When I was looking to buy/order a year ago I immediately crossed off the list the one that added all that money grab bullshit.

in the last 25 years, I've owned 7 or 8 different cars and SUV.

On all of them, I was basically forced to pay for the sunroof(regular or panoramic) because it was always part of a larger package that I wanted and couldn't live without.... no sunroof delete option.

I never use the sunroof and the shade is always closed. The only time I open them is to clean or lubricate the tracks annually. The most pointless and money-wasting option, at least for me.

All accessories and port installed items are marked up significantly over their individual retail price in most cases. It’s alluring to people ordering because they can roll it into their loan so they are less price sensitive, and BMW is certainly aware of that.

Most automakers are aware of that. When I’m watching car auctions I will “build” a vehicle online. In this build I go for the gold. If you want the bigger engine it comes with additional pricey options that add onto the price. This is how sunroofs are sold. I’m still not sure how people financing their vehicles don’t understand that the more options they add the higher the monthly payments. Paying the cost and higher interest for 7 years makes that the most expensive first aid kit or panoramic roof in recent history.

I can at least live with option packages having stuff I don't necessarily want – I kind of get the economics of having less variation in the assembly line, etc. There's at least some justification. But dealer add-ons are just complete nonsense, often being of absolutely no use. Nitrogen-filled tires? Total nonsense that makes zero difference. VINs being engraved on windows? Again, total nonsense that isn't preventing theft in any way. Any coating they put on anything is probably as cheap as possible and applied poorly. If you want any kind of coating on your car, go to a shop that specializes in it and actually knows what they're doing. And on and on and on. First thing I do is scratch a line through that shit – if you've already put it on, take it off because I'm not buying the car with it. That and any kind of dealer sticker; I'll absolutely walk out the door before I drive off a lot with one on the car.

I like to add all those items into my builds and I don't check the prices.

Its its most likely the exact same kit. I have 3 of them...every time I trade any BMW in I keep the old one and put them in my other cars. My Cadillac and my Toyota both have BMW first aid kits.
