Creaking Noise and Felt Tape...
This is not a fix-all, however I was able to remove SOME creaking from the trunk area. I noticed when I pressed down on the trunk plastic pockets I'd get major creaking noise in the area shown in the pic. I used felt tape and random foam I had laying around to remove the creaking on both sides. I also added some to the bottom of the d-pillar panels, however that location only had minor creaking. Note, my d-pillar panels are already lined with dynaliner foam so I only needed felt on the bottom...basically where you see plastic on plastic or body.

Upper Glovebox Trim Replacement
[UPDATE: 23SEPT2024 - Repaired non-leather trim using 3M (08008) Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive and reinstalled]
My upper glovebox trim, like all of them eventually, began to seperate. Not sure why, but always thought this was an arduous process to replace. I found the instructions on ISTA and was surpised at the ease of removal. I swapped in the leather version of trim and plan on trying to repair the one I removed and add it to my reversible parts bin. BEFORE YOU START, take pictures and/or all around gap measurements of your current upper glovebox trim...which assumes it's never been removed or you like the look of the current gap situation. Once you loosen the bolts for the upper trim you'll see there is a lot tolerance for final placement. Everything is done with the glovebox open, except when removing the upper trim...it's easier with the glovebox closed. I have to say, this trim piece is bolted down with SIX screws...which is just...WOW.

When I cleaned the exterior glass, there were random stripes or striations that would appear until it completely dried. Kinda like permanent streaks. They would also show up on humid days. Not super obvious, as you can see in the previous post, my glass "looks" clean in dry conditions...but it isn't.
Under certain lighting you could clearly see the the stripes/grime (see before pix below). I thought maybe it was behind the interior tint, but found the same stripes on the rear windows that were factory tinted. So I obviously needed a bit more than the Sprayway glass cleaner...I started with windex (amonia), GTechnique water spot remover (vinegar), clay, and finally isopropyl alcohol...NOTHING WORKED. Suprisingly, not even a tiny bit of improvement. So I had to go to the next level, which was polishing. But not so far as my earlier post on polishing out scratches from glass (Post #139, Pg.7). Instead I decided to try Griot's Garage Fine Glass Polish. The video in the link below tells you HOW to use it, VERY EASY with a dual action buffer or equivalent. https://www.griotsgarage.com/fine-gl...ish-16-ounces/ This worked exceptionally and I spent about 5 minutes per window (3 crosshatch passes). Below are BEFORE/AFTER pix of my exterior glass polishing (left side windows). I used the 6" polishing pads, but in hindsight I would use the 3" pads for the side windows and 6" pads for the rear window and windshield. The polish wipes off clean from the window seals, however I will observe them over the weeks to see if any white residue appears (like AIO, but that's probably b/c it's acrylic based whereas griot's glass polish is water based). I plan to coat the windows Griot's Glass Sealant and add this to my maintenance routine. [INSTALL UPDATE: 3" pads are the only way to go for the side windows. After application of the polish there is some white residue, but once cleaned it doesn’t reappear. I had to use a pick in sime cases to clean some of it. The Griot’s sealant is a bear, IMO. Part if it was the local humidity and temperature (60F, 70%). It states to apply, let dry and reapply second coat, wipe off. Given the alcohol base I thought the first coat would dry quickly (within 15-30m) and so it appeared. I applied a second coat and it started to bead a bit. Too much. I left it to dry about 12 hours and began wiping. Still not dry bc I was just moving it around. Washed my half dozen dedicated glass microfiber towels and over the next couple days wiped over and over, rewashed. Finally the excess was gone. I used super bright light to illuminate the glass and hunt for residue. Went over the glass with Sprayway which helped a lot. Also, you may want to clean the inside glass to avoid appearance of streaks on outside. It took longer to apply the sealant than polish all the glass. I wouldn’t do two coats next time and maybe wait until 80F+ weather, but we always have high humidity.] [UPDATE 3FEB2024: The sealant works well in wet weather, even when driving around 45mph/72kmh. I haven't been annoyed by glair in day or night driving, which is a pleasant surprise. I guess 2 coats IS the way to go, just remove all the dried excess to enjoy it. Before polishing the windshield I drove an iX 5.0 loaner and the clarity of new glass stood out (secondarily, obviously, to all the technology). The polished glass rivals new glass and it's a welcome and tangible improvement., FWIW.] FRONT LEFT GLASS: BEFORE - YES, This is the cleanest I could get the glass pre-polish. AFTER REAR LEFT GLASS: BEFORE - This is the cleanest I could get the glass pre-polish. AFTER

Updated this list so I can more easily find past posts.
My favorite mod to date is, by far, the F-Series Shift Knob retrofit. It makes the interior look significantly more modern. I actually made a second one for a forum member now driving with a ceramic F-Series M-display shift knob in Germany. I think it went well, he was very patient and I'm thankful becasue I learned a lot about how to recreate this mod. If there is some demand, I may one day offer to sell a few more...it's just a fun project and completely reversible back to the old aluminum E70 shift knob. VINTAGE BMW FLASHBACK...
Been sitting on some old E36M3 parts in my attic and started to go through them. I stumbled across some 2013 pix of my 98E36M3 coupe that I sold in 2014 with about ~80k miles. I bought it with 17k miles in 2004. The previous owner did a eruo delivery and kept it in Belguim working for some time so it was euro dot spec'd to be compliant (headlights, taillights, class III alarm, etc.). I went enthusiast excessive and installed every OEM retrofit kit and rare OEM part I could get my hands on from bmw. A couple notable items: GT2 Spoiler full kit, LTW splitters, OEM PDC, OEM Power Rear Vent Windows, OEM Nappa leather center console trim and glovebox, OEM Euro-Spec Steering Wheel (custom wrap), Custom nappa F&R door panels, OEM Headlight Aiming, Euro-Only 323ti M-Paket Gauge Cluster, OEM chrome door handles, and more. You'll also notice the Dinan Exhaust, TCK Coilover setup, and custom xenon euro headlights. Those are LM replica wheels, but I had the OEM LTW's as well. You'll notice on the GT2 wing there is a imprint on the right side for the oem certification sticker. I had it, but I never installed as I didn't want to degrade it. I passed it on to the new owner....yes...obsessive. I've calmed down since then (of course, budget has a lot to do with it)… In hindsight (as always the case), I was crazy to let her go. Sadly, within a year of sale, the new owner reported that someone crossed four lanes of highway to make an exit and tookout the front end. Not sure what happened afterwards. I hope you enjoy the pix: Last one...engine bay at purchase:

DIY Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils
DIY Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils
If you've already swapped spark plugs and ignition coils, there is no new information in this DIY. DIY_E70X5M Spark Plugs-Coils_19Feb2024.pdf This was my first time swapping these on the E70 so I created this DIY to remind me of the pitfalls and challenges on my next time around. This wasn't a difficult of a job with the right tools and now with the understanding of the characteristics of these spark plug threads. My spark plugs were replaced at purchase (15k miles) and this is the 30k replacement (@44658 miles). I used OEM plugs and Turner Motorsport coils. I like to do everything OEM, but since I'll likely be changing these out in another 30k, I went with TMS. I suspect one or more of my OEM coils was faltering as I had a poor fuel consumption symptom and a very slight lag in second between 1k-2k rpm. The lag is gone, will monitor fuel consumption. Except for one coil significantly grey/white-tarnished at the tip, they all looked quite well. After install, it was nice to feel the crisp throttle response. Ok, this post need pix:

Lubricating Engine Hood Latch Coil Springs
I have my hood open each time it's in the garage to facilitate cooling, especially in the summer. I noticed it getting a bit harder to pull. So I used Finishline (FI106) synthetic lubricant on the latch coil springs. You don't need a lot and this disperses as a foam then melts in place. I actually have it around for bikes, but does the trick here. Pull handle is buttery smooth afterwards.

Turbo Cooling Hose Repair
Turbo Cooling Hose Repair
Productive weekend. I had a small seepage in my Return Hose CYL 1-4 turbo cooling lines. Luckily at the very top. As you can see from below it was the small hose and both of the of feed line screws: I had planned to have bmw replace both turbo cooling lines while doing an oil service last month, but it was a small fortune for such tiny leaks. I had the parts pre-ordered so I decided to just use the component hose from the whole return hose line (11-53-7-598-343, $58.85 at genuinebmwminiparts.com). I had also orded and used: Feed Line Screw (11-53-7-507-218, $5.24/ea) Feed Line O-rings (11-53-7-593-308, $5.04/ea) and various hose clamps, but needed the following for this small hose: Return Line Hose Clamp, 21.3mm (11-15-1-726-339, $1.37/ea) Hose Clamp, 15,3-18,5 (32-41-1-131-346, $2.65/ea) I used the following clamping tool: Knipex, 8-3/4", P/N: 10 99 I220. I did not clamp it as tight as the others in the vicinty, but I will monitor. The tool allows me to clamp further, but I felt they were over-tight which is the reason the hose was leaking. It all came out well, but noticed after clamping I could have pushed the hose up against the feed line screw block. I have more clamps if it becomes an issue. Oh, I did need a heat gun to warm up the new hose for easier removal from the return line assembly. I noticed in the new turbo cooling lines that the feed line screw is no longer used.

My DIY only covers replacement of the shift knob/gear selector. HOWEVER, in the PDF I attached at the end of the post, on pg.5, you'll find this important link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=kr9ol8cGZIw This guy does a great job of fixing a water-logged PCB inside the shifter assembly, but along the way you can glean details about how he disassembled and reassembled the shifter assembly, which is what you really need in your case. At ~2m in the video, he'll show the bottom of the shaft and it has a delrin nose cone, which I extrapolate goes into a socket of some kind that activates sport mode when you move the gear selector. Maybe that piece is broken on your shifter assembly. At 24:03 - 26:00, you can see more details about these parts. [UPDATE:] I just watched more, looks to me if the nose piece was broken then you wouldn't be able to shift at all...it has to be whatever the nose cone is interfacing when you move it into sport mode... I have two spare shifter assemblies, not from E70's, but they are similar and the internal parts may be as well...? When I get time, I plan to source a used E70 shifter as a test bed when building these shifter mods.
