Well I've heard of timing chain issues on the v8 but it sounded way different than any timing chain failure I've heard before, they usually sound really fast vs your engine sound but hey you learn stuff every day.

Hope that was it. I'd ask them to give you a VERY detailed breakdown of everything that was done and ask them to take pics of the engine while they tear it apart. Take note of how clean things are. Usually a motor that wasn't regularly maintained will have darker color vs one that was. Just a thought.
