KayTees, I agree that the original intake on the 35i was a cold air intake (CAI). However when BMW upgraded the diesel engines on the E70 LCI X5s a dual intake system was installed that occupies both the holes on the radiator shroud where as one was blanked off in the 35i. Theoretically the dual system will provide more air hence its a larger CAI. The picture shows how its attached in a X5 40d.
