You had me right up to the tranny oil. And I know why. This is a hot topic and the subject of many an argument.
- If transmission oil is replaced relatively early (at anywhere between 50-75k miles), it's all good. change it out with no worries.
- if you wait 'till the tranny has over 100k miles and/or the tranny has had a hard life (towing etc), you risk slippage due to already-glazed clutch packs. The slippery new oil makes the clutch-grabbing even harder, so you get slippage.
- If your tranny is already slipping, then you have nothing to lose but a coupla hundred bucks if you change the oil. Remarkably, this has been a fix for some vehicles.
BTW, this info comes straight from the national service manager of Maaco transmissions. He has 25+ yrs of hands-on experience as an auto-stick tech.
