Yes, and this is precisely what I did. The whole enclosure is held by four 10mm bolts, I removed it, then you unsnap the top portion of the enclosure and replace the speaker. The Bavsound speaker sits higher in the lower portion of the enclosure, and won't allow the top portion to snap back in.
Bavsound said they are aware of this issue on some X5 models, and suggested I remove the metal grille from their speaker. With the grille removed I could snap it back together, but then the top portion of the enclosure touches and pushes on the speaker surround.
