DIY Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils

DIY Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils

If you've already swapped spark plugs and ignition coils, there is no new information in this DIY.

This was my first time swapping these on the E70 so I created this DIY to remind me of the pitfalls and challenges on my next time around. This wasn't a difficult of a job with the right tools and now with the understanding of the characteristics of these spark plug threads.

My spark plugs were replaced at purchase (15k miles) and this is the 30k replacement (@44658 miles). I used OEM plugs and Turner Motorsport coils. I like to do everything OEM, but since I'll likely be changing these out in another 30k, I went with TMS. I suspect one or more of my OEM coils was faltering as I had a poor fuel consumption symptom and a very slight lag in second between 1k-2k rpm. The lag is gone, will monitor fuel consumption. Except for one coil significantly grey/white-tarnished at the tip, they all looked quite well. After install, it was nice to feel the crisp throttle response.
