The oil change is really easy to do if you have basic hand tools and the 14mm Hex (a T70 torx bit works too, that's what I've been using). Personally, I'd recommend doing the gear, and an oil change+ readapt. You're out less than $100, and it'll take 2 hours to do your first time, max. In the meantime, if you need to drive much, I'd recommend either unplugging the tcase plug (getting lots of warnings) or buying Xdelete, which is the route I went. That got rid of my shuddering until I could fix it.
