Symptom is a burning oil/plastic type of smell from outside as well as inside when exhaust is hot. I know that the problem is with vacuum pump leaking since this is diagnostics I got from my local BMW dealership. They quoted me $2,500 for the repair (parts+labor). I can get a new genuine BMW vacuum pump p/n: 11668605976 (for $200 - new no box), and O-Ring for $3 p/n: 11668605976. Just want to see if anyone attempted to replace it themselves and have any input on this DIY. Apparently repair manual is allowing 8 hours for this job.
