Question: I noticed some people on the internet, that had a spun rod bearing after replacing the OFHG(the belt still intact). Any logical explanation for that? Or any advice for rod bearings in general on the N55 engine? Thanks a lot.

Answer:
Hi, yes there is a procedure I would recommend. The current procedure to do when the oil circuit is opened is to turn the engine over by hand 2 x and then with a charger on the vehicle and the fuel system disabled (fuel pump fuse or unplug the low side pump) crank the engine for 5 sec intervals letting the starter rest for 1 min in between and do this 4x. This re-primes the system. Also you should double up on your oil changes and try to avoid short distance driving that allows water build up in the oil. I hope this helps!

More info:
This should be performed on any repair that interrupts the oil circuit. That would include vehicles that have sat for a long time, vanos unit and solenoid replacement, oil pan removal, or any major engine internal work.
