I don't know what a Thor dongle is but the initial images that pop up in my head are not pleasant. lol
I 100% recommend the Bimmergeeks cable, it is the best K+DCAN cable on the market due to superior firmware. It works and works well. Other cheaper cables can work but are usually problematic (sound like your issue). Just get the Bimmergeeks.
