I get the sales pitch but if you use the logic, the whole thing does indeed make sense and if it makes sense, I am sticking by it.

If you want to drive your vehicle with mismatched tires or talk like an expert on doing such, please post some reference here for us until then follow what your BMW recommends

Btw, BMW recommends only 1-2 mm difference between the new and the old tire and not 10 mm which is almost 1/2 the tread of a new tire.

Drive train repairs are pretty expensive so if it was me, I would use atleast 2 new tires of the same make and model on the back.
