Condolences, people do truly suck sometimes, especially these days. Some steal purses, some steal cars, some steal investments, some steal pensions... is what it is.

This is 20/20 obviously, but we keep virtually nothing in our cars for this very reason (microfibers and a USB cord are about it). Good luck getting your sense of security/violation back to a nominal state. Took us awhile too when door checkers opened one of our cars (wife's) one night on video. At least they went off with just a BMW cover. We never leave those in there... but did this time. Of course. $200 lesson.
Another time on an older car they did break a window to steal an old $30 radio though... I forgot to remove the faceplate.
