Honestly bro, I'd just put it up on Craigslist or offer up as "mechanic special" for like $2500 and let someone else deal with it.
You can get a nice beater car for about $4k if you look around. I picked up an 07 accord at auction a few years ago for $800 that needed a transmission. Took it to my transmission guy and he swapped a used JDM one in for $1200 and has been running great ever since.
I use it for running around or long trips to keep miles down on my nice cars.
It's also nice to be stealthy sometimes.
